when searching for info on this it csn get super confusing. so many different options some people say grab pump "a" but then switch you backing plate from original pump. some say get pump "b" but you need to get the timing cover that matches.

from everything i read it seems the 88-91 crown vic pump was most commonly the easiest with no mods at all so i went ahead and bought one

first pic is what my timing cover looks like

2nd and 3rd pic pics is my original water pump. note the inlet holes and relation to my timing cover

4th and 5th pic is the 88-91 crown vic standard rotation water pump

from what i can see and tell it actually looks like the crown vic pump inlet, outlets and shape with actually match my timing cover better than the original.

any reason why this wont work?

i havent been able to finish because i need to really clean all my bolts and chase the threads a bit to make sure it goes together nice. bolts looked gross and had gunk all over them,.... but none of them broke thank goodness.

What 5.0 engine are you running? Is it a mustang 5.0 HO engine?or a crown vic 5.0 enigine? I ask because why not use a water pump for a mustang 5.0 engine..the mustang pumps turn counter clockwise not standard.

i have a regular 5.0 that is in my 89 mustang. this is for people who want to run a short belt and need to switch pumps for belt routing purpose. standard vs non standard can get confusing. the stock mustang pump turns counter clockwise. i need one that turns clockwise..

almost done.... got caught up trying to hunt down new water pump bolts which I couldn't find. I ended up cleaning mine up and will reuse them. I am putting thread sealer on the ones that go through the water jackets and antiseeze on the other ones. I ended up smearing a little bit of that permatex high tach gasket stuff on both sides of the gasket. when I was looking around that seemed to be the most common thing that people used.

redrilling the water pump pulley was a little tricky but I think it came out 99% perfect. one hole could have been a little closer on location but I just went up the next drill size and the bolt went in easy.

the belt situation was a little weird. on my stock pump I did my measurements and got a belt that was 45.5 long. now that I have the new pump on I tried to put the belt on and there is no way I could get it one. turns out that my original belt that was routed with my tensioner pulling up is 45.8 inches long and that worked perfect.
