I just read in 5.0 Magazine that a guy put a Vortech S-Trim on his 95 stock Cobra and it made over 400hp at the wheels. This seems very atypical to the point of preposterous.

Last time I looked around, it was like 315hp at the wheels on a stock Cobra motor untuned. I a don't know if you can tune another 85hp out of that combo. Has anyone anyone done a straight S-trim install on a stock motor and a dyno tune? What kind of numbers did it make?

Thanks,
Gabe

You could hit 350 on a stock GT motor once tuned properly. I have seen 94/95 Cobras over 400 with a tune and Vortech

Remember, Cobra's were underrated from the factory. A rating of 240 hp means they would have to put down like 212 rwhp stock. Every cobra or GT with the GT-40 stuff that I've seen put down more to the wheels than that.

400hp is a bit much for stock exhaust no tune. But I've never seen a supercharged snake missing either. 400 is realistic with these.

A 94/95 Cobra has much better heads than the GT. I could see getting over 400 rwhp on the GT to take a bit more effort (but doable, of course). Much easier with the GT40's.

Going from 215rwhp to 400+rwhp with normal timing, pump gas, and less than 11psi would be very tough or lucky.

I'm wondering what kinda pulley setup/ how many #'s they were getting out of it and if that thing would have usable head gaskets after a couple of days.

I've lost a lot of faith in the mustang mag's not that I dont read them so I can see prices and gleem some good things out of them.

You could go from 215rwhp to 400rwhp with 14psi of boost. I picked up 145 rwhp with 11 psi and a super mild tune so adding ~185rwhp with 14 psi is very likely.

Bah... the block is going first anyway . I know someone who ran 18# of turbcharged boost on a stock longblock for quite a while. Ran 10's .

It's the April 2005 Issue, the "Green with Envy" story. Beautiful car, original owner too. Here's the quote from the mag:

"...Vortech S-Trim kit. With little else, the car made 460hp at the rear wheels, and it was pulling 11.50s at the track."

That is insane! That would be a gain of 245hp at the wheels with the stock long block.

I put a Vortech SQ on my 94 Cobra with longtube headers, Prochamber and Borla exhaust. I have no tune and am running 107 MPH-13.50 1/4 mile. I honestly thought it would be a bigger improvment and I seriously doubt 400 HP is possible.

The Vortech website claims only 319 on a 94-95 Cobra and 376 on a 93 Cobra.

On my Cobra I got 345 rwhp with a little Powerdyne, the smallest supercharger. I only saw 5-6 psi boost on the dyno, no chip just tuned with Cartech FMU, fuel pressure & adjustable rate of boost fuel. This is with only full exhaust. I would hope a Vortec would get more out of it then a Powerdyne.

Oink made around 320 in his GT, AODE, with stock everything (I think ehaust was done) and no tune.
