i'd have to say its a big negative for me on the 96-98 cobras. if your gonna do a dual cam do an 01. better heads, better intake, coil on plug, better irs than the 99 and the better suede interior than the 99. also the t56 on the 99-up models is a very easy swap. the 96-98 cobras have some wack ass frame stuff going on that makes them a bit trickier to do subframes and such.

as for the Z's you can get a decent 04 for about 18k. you won't get 300hp till 06 though--just a mesely 287.

don't forget the bullitts. you can find those pretty cheap and parts are alot cheaper too. only down side is its still a stick axle.

300 is a nice number, but what does the torque curve look like and what does a stock one run in the 1/4?

the curve is flatter than my h/c/i 95--peak number is low obviously typically around 240rwtq. it is geared to hell and back though so you really don't miss the torque, that and the car is alot lighter.

i have seen 1/4 times in the upper 13's with a good one being 13.66--but if your getting a 350Z to drag race thats like taking a hooker fishing. sure its fun but thats not what you got her for.

The 'older 350Z' came with 287 H.P. They run low 14's at 98ish if I recall. Drove one, it was nice and handled excellent. There are two guys in my small town with one each.

Yeah the 96-98 DOHC's run right with the 99-04 SOHC. The new 3V's are faster than the 96-98, 99, 01 Cobra. You can look around and find 03/04 Cobra's for mid-20's, and some less...

99 Cobra's had a intake manifold recall, they were making around 290hp, not quite the 320 h.p. they were rated for...many got them changed out though.

Don't get a 96-98, they are only good for the Teksid block

There is very little difference between a ls1 firebird formula, ls1 transam, ls1 ws6, and firehawk. I'd stick with a ls1 ws6. They look very nice and mean. They come with a bit better suspension, bit better cat-back, functional ram-air, and small aesthetics...

Go with an 01+, they had the ls6 intake to start out with...and zo6 clutch

For some pic's...

I'm sorry to hear about the car Nate, that too is one of my worst fears.

My top two picks for cars are:
-C6 Z06 which is obviously out of the price range considering the other cars you are looking at.

-Infiniti G35 coupe- if I could have a new daily driver tomorrow and I lived in an area that i could drive it all year long this would be THE car for me. This car does it all for me, it sounds mean, looks sleek and sexy, and its a rarity around here. Its very similar to the 300Z, but its price tag is a good bit higher when looking for a used one.

I know I may get flamed for this, but since you live in the snowy north, have you considered an Evo? They are still commanding a high price (upper 20K) but they are a bad ass ride IMO. I know a few people with them and I wouldn't mind owning one, it'd make for one hell of a daily driver!

Decisions decisions decisions.....a 03 cobra would be nice. I kinda dont want to see the insurance quote though lol. Thats the one good thing about the ol' 5.0. Insurance wasnt out of control.

I would like to have something with a touch of luxury...like the G35....but at the same time, being 6'3" 230lbs, it'd be nice to have some space(insert truck).

I dont know how im ever going to make a decision! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! lol hahaha
