I'm yanking the POS in dash stereo an putting the original radio back in. I've got an Alpine deck to stuff in the glove box. Does anyone have pics of clever ways to do this in a 65-66?

I'll snap a picture today. Only two things--A) You can't laugh at my Tape Deck (!) and I want to see how you get your alpine mounted as I am going to buy an alpine myself.

Done and done. Tapes are still cool by me, I have lots of them. 300+ vinyl records too.

I only laugh at teenagers with bus benches bolted to the trunk lid and coffee can performance exhaust tips or dozens of stickers from manufacturers parts they don't have.

I won't take pics of those on my car!

Here we go. The first pic is of the glove box closed. Usually, it has a small cable hanging out under the door to connect to my iPod. But, I coiled it up for a show last night. Here you go. . . .

Here is the one with the door open. The sleeve is heavy plastic and attached to the box with screws and sheet metal backing on the outside to anchor the screws. Doesn't rattle or bounce. My aged tape deck has a remote, so I can operate it through the glove box door. 99% of the time it is closed as most of my tunes are on my iPod.

I just need an alpine that will fit and have an audio in so I can hard wire the iPod and ditch the tape connector. Still, it works pretty well.

Does his help? I want to see pics of your setup. What Alpine are you going to get?

6 X 9's in the rear package tray and a set of 6 inchers ready to go in the kick panels when I get some time.

I'm running Monster Cable wiring. Good stuff. (Probably overkill, but I got an excellent deal on it.)

Yup, mine does. Of course, the only thing I use it for is adjusting the volume as I use the iPod for playing songs. You have to point the remote at the door, but it'll go through. The fresher the battery, the less precise you have to be pointing the remote.

Still, in my class--daily driver--I always get comments on having the original radio in the dash. I've even gone so far as to pull the back speakers and throw in another package tray I have so you cannot tell at all that I have any stereo equipment in the car. I don't do that too often, though, as it is a pain to work in the back seat. Too cramped for me.

Works well, if you ask me.

Still, my tape deck is on its last legs and I need a new, reasonably priced, head unit. I'd like a Alpine, so I'm interested if anyone else has one in the glove box.

Wow! Supersize pics thanks! I bought the Alpine CDA-9827. It's the cheapest model that comes with a remote. It also comes with other stuff the cars driver(my wife) really won't care about, but you might. It does MP3's, XM ready, CD changer control, 3 pair RCA outs. I love the Alpine I put under the dash in 62 Chevy truck. They have geat EQ control and a seperate sub control. I'm concerned about the ability of the remote to operate through the glove box door because it's an IR remote. Do you know if your remote for the Sony is IR or RF?

My install will be a bit different from yours because I have the after market "in dash" A/C sytem stuffed up in there and the glove box is much smaller and has no top. But I think I can squeeze it in. All Alpines are 6 1/4 deep and I think I have just enough room for it.

I'll certainly post pics once I get it done.

Sorry about the Jumbo pictures, but I figured you'd want to see so I took 'em big.

I looked in my owner's manual for the tape deck and it doesn't say about the remote. But, isn't IR line of sight? The fact that it works with the door closed would make it not IR, correct?

Correct, IR is line of sight. The stereo guy said he's had succsess through the glove box door though. I'm skeptical but we did do a few tests in the store holding a solid object in front of the display unit. It seems it may work but not 100% of the time. I took the chance, the unit was $75 more than the non remote one I was considering. We'll see....

All right here's what I ended up with. A few scrap brackets from the junk box and a universal face mount kit. The lower photo shows the strap supporting the back end. Seems pretty solid so far and sounds much better.

Excellent! I may end up taking part of the top of my glove box unit out so I can brace it at the back. Is it invisible with the door closed? Remote work?

I think this'll be the Apline I get.

It's totally unseen with the door shut. And no I haven't had any success with the remote through the door, but it will be handy not to reach over for adjustments. Other than to open and close the door. I'm pondering the idea of trying to rig a fiber optic line to it. Don't no if IR travels through that stuff or not.
