You forgot Road Head in your multi-task options. I wasn't saying unregistered drivers were the apart of the choice, just that there's a numerous amount of unregistered drivers to add to the registered drivers giving you an idea of how many people. So good comprehension there friend

And you missed my point too YoungStanger. Define "unregistered drivers". There aren't any more unlicensed drivers here in SoCal per capita than any other megalopolis with insufficient mass transit (Dallas, Denver, Atlanta, Chicago). If you think "unregistered = here illegally" then go ahead and say it. Don't beat around the bush. If not, that's cool. Personally, I don't think ethnicity has anything to do with driving skill. Experience and familiarity are another matter. It takes time and experience to become a good driver and no state issued driver's license imparts those qualities to the recipient.

You also didn't read the part about me being an Angeleno too so I'm acutely aware of the traffic conditions in SoCal. There are approximately 35 million people in CA and over 27 million of them are in SoCal. That makes for crowded freeways. However, I405 during rush hour here isn't appreciably different than I75 in Atlanta during rush hour. Granted, our rush hours are longer than most cities and that is because of the volume which you've already referenced.

I don't think you are a wuss, but just because you can't handle a clutch, I don't think they are on their way out. Used corvettes with manuels get more than equals vettes with autos. And it takes really good drivers these days to see a real difference in performance. Some folks just enjoy shifting. In fact I heard that Ford is looking replacing the stick with a paddle shifter. That may just be a rumor, but if Ford does make that change, I won't buy anymore mustangs.

Not slipping at all.. Sure - if you POP the clutch at an idle - it will buck and take-off or it will stall.
Cold / Hot / Warm - Slowly letting the clutch out at an idle will get the car rolling and with the TCS off I can punch it and light up both rear hydes..
I don't think it would do that if the clutch were slipping..

When you get yours - check it out.. It's no joke...

Actually this could be true as I was just reminded that the new stangs have hydralic clutches. All my experience has been with the mechanical type. Only a couple more weeks before I can see for myself, waiting is hard.

There is only one thing I hate about my auto - having to defend my choice of it to simple-minded types who say stupid crap like some of the things I've read above. Bottom line-get what you want. A manual is fun, but wholly impractical for me. I owned a manual previously and vowed not to get another because of my commute. I paid extra for an auto transmission because it is what I wanted. Also, it's fun to romp on whilst touching up my mascara!

If your only reason for not getting a manual is your comfort level - you'll get over that. Get what you want. Just be prepared to deal with idiotic responses if your choice is an auto.

Try having a V6 Auto! LOL!

I usually hit one or two car shows every weekend... My gosh the first couple of shows i came home so depressed.. All day long... "oh, it's only a V6..." and "Geez... it's an automatic..." LOL! Eventually my skin thickened up... and I've learned to tune those people out (or some times I do try to enlighten them... being a V6 Apologist! LOL!!! ) Now I go and hang out and have a blast just meeting and talking to people...... And once in a while I do get someone to see the light... that the new V6 is not that horrible rental V6 from the 80s... and the new 5R55S is a fantastic transmission.... LOL!

scrming and GTJade. Both of you are my kind of people! I agree with everything you both just said. I have a V6 auto and I put up with alot from people two. The same ol crap "It's only a 6?" It's an Auto?" Or my favorite, "You got a pusstang!"

My response is simple. "You drive what? A Honda Civic right? Or You drive that beat up old VW right?

I can see where shifting can make a well rounded performance car experience. I'll agree with that assertion. I find that most the time, gentlemen tend to say the first thing that comes to mind. Again, I do not think that if one had a S-7 given to them with a paddle controlled automated manual they would cry. Most make pointed remarks with the least words possible. Tis' the essence of communication style differences.

As for the free hand comment....."attend to more important things....them" or their passanger.... Having an auto does have its intimate advantages.

And on a side note... It is just a car...It gets us from point A to point B. If someone asserts their opinion that my family is odd, I am ugly, I am unintelligent, I am fat, my son is too hyper, I will come at you with gusto. But, as for my car. Nah.... To each his own and it is simply an opinion that everyone has the right to voice (in a respectible manner..and if not...take the high road...it causes the speaker more distress to be ignored.)
