Sticking gas pedal

I searched but i did not find what i was looking for... My gas pedal gets stuck when its up. Example; Ill get in the car turn it on, try to give it a rev (sounds cool) and the pedal wont budge! The first time this happend, i was confused. I put alot of pressure on the pedal and nothing. I checked the throttle body as well to see if it was stuck and the whole system was not moving. So i got back in and stomped on the pedal and it came loose. But, now my gas pedal is already halfway to the floor. It drives fine, but when i punch it i only get half the feeling since its already halfway floored. So after a long post, i have 2 problems. 1, My pedal still occasionally gets stuck in the up position. 2, my pedal is half way floored and not where its supposed to be.... Any help will be appreciated. thanks.

have you inspected the throttle linkage?

look where it connects to the throttle body, sounds like it maybe got stretched or the stop got moved so the pedal sags.

can take the linkage off the bottom of the tb, and see if its opening/closing freely. it may need lubed. then when you stomped it hard and broke it loose it did something to the linkage?

If your pedal is sticking, it could be due to buildup in the throttle body. I had the same problem and just used a little carb cleaner and the problem was solved.

As for your pedal being too far to the floor, it could be due to a streched out cable. You may need to replace it. That is also on my to do list. Good luck.

Thanks for the replys. ITs a brand new TB, but ill check it out just to make sure. I think i might have stretched the cable when i stomped on it...woops.
Any idea how much a new cable costs? Also, difficutly of install? thanks again.

I have the same problem. The problem is the TB not the cable. Mine broke in after a little while. If you put a stronger spring on it should help the situation.

You don't need a new cable just tighten up on the throttle screw a little.

Thanks again for the replies... Is there anyway to speed up the break in procss or lube it somehow to make sure it doesnt stick??? Also, how would i replce the spring? And, what screw would i tighten? Will tightening the screw take up the slack in the cable, and bring my pedal back to norma>?? thanks

I had this same problem and decided to fix it after I had to slam on the gas pedal to go and then the car went WAY too sideways. It ended up being the throttle body blade inside it was getting stuck. I just ended up swaping the throttle body for another.

the problem actually started for me after i started trying to clean the t/b, and iac, i just make it a point to press down the gas every time before starting the car, other wise it'll rev up once it budges, sometimes if i sit at a light for a long time it'll get stuck again, then i'll have to press hard and rev real loud, everyone looks at me

Tighten the throttle screw 1/4 turn and the throttle plate will no longer stick. Couple this with a splash of TB cleaner spray and wipe it all out. Works every time. That will cure the sticking throttle plate (That is what it sounds like )

I really don't know about the low pedal. That may be a cable issue. But they do not stretch that much. I would look to see if it came off it's pivot at the TB and is catching the linkage. A visual inspection comparing against an illustration in your manual is called for.

Thanks for the info. Ill try that. As for the pedal, its still on its pivot. it works fine but it sits halfway to the floor. so i cant actually get on it. thanks again.
