i did a little research on cat converters that in fact if you remove it, youll see a slight difference in gas mileage. the thing is that theres no restriction holding the gases back. i realized when i put on a header on my nissan w/o a cat and mileage went to 2-3mpg more. another theory is drafting behind a semi-turck on the freeway if your not in a rush. on my friends 93 gt, we were running very close to empty. he decided to draft behind a truck and it worked. the last you want is the truck stopping all of the sudden

Mythbusters did a great test on the drafting theory and it is no theory. The safety aspect makes it dangerous, but it does work in a big way.
Unfortunatley, semi trucks around here go 75-85mph in our normal congested traffic, so you'd be dumb to follow close behind.

My car had no effect at all when i switched form 2:73 gears to 3:73..stayed the same in the city...i think it went doen on the freeway tho.....
I'm surprised to see people saying they are getting 10-14 mpg....
I get about 17 in the city with 3:73 and a 3 year old tune upp...

I dont think he is getting ass good as gas millage as a 4 cylinder Honda...
but I also dont think your car should be getting 12-14 mpg
that's horrible..
Driving style heavily affects gas mileage, especially when you have a lot of power. If you're a "lead foot" like me, you use up a lot more fuel when you romp on the gas pedal.
The tune would have something to do with this as well. I wonder if the different computers would have an effect on this? If you know, please post your computer model (ex: J4J1) and your gas mileage. I'm curious to see if there's a correlation.

Ok well I guess I have to take pictures for you non-believers but w/e I dont need anyone to believe me because I know what my car does and i experience it everyday and am happy with it. And btw it was 28 on a NON STOP HIGHWAY trip, NEVER EVER did i say that it was average. I specifically said My average has run around 19. But I guess people will read what they want to:SNSign:

You've never run a 4.10 gear set before... if you keep your foot out of it, it will SLIGHTLY improve MPG in the city. It will get worse on the high way, and when I had my car (its been sold) there is NO WAY I could not lean on it!!
I also had it tuned to have a 12.8 A/F ratio at WOT, and 32 degrees timing all in by 2500 RPM. I was running 91 at the time. It was most definitely not tuned for economy.Adam

Yea I was talking 28 average HIGHWAY mileage but have maxed it at 29 HIGHWAY

when I was driving the car to work and back whcih is 48 miles one way I was getting 25-26 daily....best being 27 mpg and around town I was getting 19-21 depending on my driving style for the time being. Which is the reason I sold my 03 s10 at the time because I got a best of 23.75 on highway and was getting 16-18 around town. So I definately believe 28-29 mpg just like not too many people believe my 07 has gotten a best of 31 mpg on fill up (computer read 31.9) heading to Louisana except for the people who get about the same mileage in theirs. Hell making the same drive to work it gets 27-29 mpg. My friends and wife say I drive like a grandpa though. 
Almost forgot that my old 89 coupe with 3.31 gears, full exhaust got a best of 28 mpg highway but that car usually only seen 17-19 around town as I was alittle heavier on the throttle.

6oo mile round trip to Chicago netted me 21 on the hiway, it was better then I thought, Im estimating 15 in town.

Thank you, lol. And when i get those mileage numbers people say I drive like an old man also, lol. But trust me my mileage gets down and dirty with the rest of em when a good song comes on93 rock, lol.
BTW if thats ur white S197 it is very nice, I always did like white stangs seeing as my first one was white.
