Stroke it?

I am going to need to rebuild my engine soon and I wanted to know if stroking it is a good idea. If so, to what: 306, 331, or 347. Or is it better to stay with the 302?

Also, if you stroke it, do uyou need a new computer, or will the A/F ratio be ok?

You don't need a new computer, having Mass Air should take care of most of it, but like Eric said, you should also have an AFPR.

I don't think strokers last very long, which is why I just kept my 302 which is bored to 306 becuase I had a ring ridge at the top of the clyinders. There is no power difference between a 302, and 306.

What are your plans for the car? What kind of budget are you on? You wont need a new computer, at most youll need a chip burnt for your combo.

A properly built stroker motor should have no issues with longetivy. Granted, you wont last as long as the stock motor, but for numerous reasons. Get a high quality kit like scat or eagle and have a good guy slap it all together.

If your budget allows, go with a stroker. If you believe all the hype about the 347s burning oil and what not, get a 331. You may or may not kick yourself later on for not going with the extra cubes later on down the road.

Just my $.02

Exactly.... :nice: Stroking does not directly effect the A/F ratio, the entire combo and tune does. With a MAF set-up the EEC will help make the car run at stoitch (perfect A/F ratio) based on feedback from various sensors. The AFPR will help if you are lean up top at WOT, that is the only time you will get the extra fuel since the O2's are out of the loop then.

Thanks all. I am trying to get a feel for all of the things I need to consider and everyones .02 is welcome. I would hate to lay down the dinero and then not like what I get. I am thinking about a blower eventually too, but I am in Cali and have to stay smog legal. I am already pushing it as it is.

I've seen cars in magazines that have 347 and superchargers in Cali and they pass smog.

How many miles could you get out of a 347 with fully forged internals, *cast iron heads*, and everything else? Pushing like 14psi of boost? I'd say 100,000 easy does this sound about right or am i daydreaming?
