Struts and Shocks

I have a 2001 Bullitt. I am ordering a set of H&R Sport or Super Sport springs soon. I see on the MM website that they recommend the 87-93 GT struts and shocks for lowered cars. Anyone else use these struts and shocks?

Does anyone have any opinions on the KYB struts and shocks? I don't do any road racing or anything so would the Tokicos or Bilsteins be a little bit overkill? If I need to I'll probably go with the Bilsteins.

Bilstein struts and shocks will last and performance
very well for a long time running H&R SS's.I had Bilstein's
on my 92 GT and I loved them.I have heard in the past of
people having issues with KYB struts and shocks.Just do
a search you will see what I am talking about. If you are
going with that low of a drop get Caster Chamber Plates
for sure! MM or Steeda C/C plates would both be excellent chooses.Shortly after you install your H&R SS's
get a alignment if you won't you will probably be going
through tires every six months lol.

Definitely adding the CC plates. Will bumpsteer kit or X2 ball joints be needed also?

On a lowered car I strongly recommend the Steeda X2 Balljoint kit
and Bumpsteer kit but, you could get away with not running them.
The X2 Steeda Balljoint kit will lower your can another 1/4-1/2" from
what I have seen.

when your stock balljoints go, replacing them with the x2s will be a good idea (be sure to use the supplied spring isolators when you install) but the bumpsteer kit is not necessary. As pennywise said, Bilsteins are great shocks and struts, if you have the money. I was also recommended Fox body shocks/struts for my lowered car but the Bilsteins are designed for dropped cars.

X2 Balljoints

When your mustang is lowered, the front roll center changes due to the new
position of the suspension pivot points. If you lower the car too much and the front roll center drops to well below ground level, and worse than that, the roll
center moves side to side as the body rolls, resulting in lost drip anderratic handling. The lower roll center causes the body to roll more easily.Countering
this tendency usually requires a significant increase in front spring rate to simply control the added roll due to the lowered the roll center. This higher spring rate not only hurts ride quality, but it also reduces grip on rough surefaces,as the siffer springs cause the tire to skip over bumps instead of following the contours of the road. The X2 balljoint was designed to eliminate
these issues by correcting the front roll relative to the balljoint pivot point.Spacers for the springs are included in the X2 kit to maintain the same
ride height as a stock balljoint, but with a much improved roll center height. With the roll center restored to the proper height, smaller front swaybars and softer springs can be used. The result is a suspension that works for you to accommodate the small and large imperfections that are in any road, highway,or race track, allowing the tires to stay planted on the ground where they belong.

Bumpersteer

Bump or Rollsteer refers to the change in the toe angle of the wheels
as the suspension moves up and down. This occurrence is not dependent
on the driver turning the steering wheel.Toe changes can occur when the
suspension reacts to body roll, braking induced drive, or even a bump in the road.Bump and Rollsteer are normal in production vehicles and are often built into the suspension geometry to provide a greater margin of error for you the driver. From a performance standpoint,it is undesirable. Not only does the motion of the suspensionaffect the steering of the vehicle, but Bump and Roll-
steer also pervent the suspension from taking a set at corner entry as well as
affecting braking performance.Even a small amount can significantly decrease
your Mustang's handling ability. With the Steeda Bumpersteer kit no drilling
of the spindles is required witch is good to know.
