Thats not completely true, You can pick up a civic hatch with a swapped GSR or B16 for about $3500-$5500 and throw on a turbo setup and a tune for about the same price as a HCI mod on a 5.0

I said equal mods

You've swapped the motor and added a turbo.

Let's swap the 302 to a 351 and throw a turbo on it. Are we still at 267HP?

And you can pick up someones stang on the dirt cheap that's been modded to high heaven as well. I was meaning doing the modding yourself from scratch. Unless you have a wrecked GSR or JDM Civic SIR, it's going to run you more than $3500, when you factor in the orginal purchase price of the stock econobox.

Not trying to bash you, but you cannot argue with the physics of displacement.

I had a '95 civic coupe with a stock B18B1 swap and a turbo kit with a street tune and it laid down 267HP to the wheels and hit high 12's

Actually here's a video of my old civic before I owned it (its the red one laying down that crazy burnout in the beginning of the video), and there's a track run about halfway through it

That's funny stuff... I keep getting that argument with honda owners. I can swap engines too... 8.5 Liter swap (stroked 460) LOL Turbo that freaking thing and see if it can do better than 267HP LMAO!

I was real close at a 100mph pass with a pretty much stock and tired 302. Civics can't impress me unless you do a RWD swap at the very least! Maybe a lightweight hatch with an S2000 drivetrain would be cool! Spinning the front tires has got to be the most retarded thing - it's like showing off that the car company couldn't afford to add a real drivetrain in there (AWD or RWD). LOL

My 267 HP was laid down on a completely stock engine with a turbo and a tune...with a GSR swap it wouldve broken the 300 mark on the stock motor easily

Damn, why did I ever become a mustang owner again, all you guys are the same...Arrogant one track minded dumbasses, anything thats not RWD and V8 is junk

Then again Ive learned to appreciate everything fast...Ive been through 10 cars in the past year, including 3 civics, 3 V8 mustangs, and one helluva fast AWD Turbo Plymouth Laser....And whats pretty sad is the fastest car Ive owned yet was that laser and not the stangs...That laser ran high 11s in the 1/4 and pushed close to 400HP out of the completely stock longblock

Civic hatchback + Engine swap + Turbo kit = sub 300hp and 12 second time slips. Somthing in that equasion does not sound right.

Stock 5.0 Mustang + Wetshot Nitrous + Slicks = much more than 300hp and 11 second timeslips... and you've only started and YOUR NOT DRIVING A ECONOBOX CIVIC.

I hate it when people say this. dont pick on imports. Why not its stupid to build one. Yeah they can make big horsepower. and yeah they can run the 1/4 under ten seconds after you sink tens of thousands of dollars into it. And once you do that you lose streetability. But why do that when you can take your mustang throw in a stroker, with h/c/i and whoop all the ricers you want to. Then if you want to go even bigger put on a s/c and still be able to drive it home from the track.

The only reason i hate imports is because of the people that represent them. yeah man in put on a cold air intake and a fart pipe and they think there car is gonna outrun a mustang. its not that imports suck or anything i just dont like the b/s that comes along with it.

Gotta play the devils advocate a little here. I know exactly what you are talking about:
That EG Civic Hatch, lime green, 6" tall body kit around the car, front bumper with an intercooler cutout and no intercooler or turbo, with a 5" tip (folger's tin can special), rolling on 14" steelies.
The Hyundai Accent, with not a thing done to it but a 1' tall aluminum wing on the trunk.
Or that 2nd Gen Integra, primer black with huge rust sections on the quaterpanels, bouncing like crazy on cut springs, 14" steelies up front and a pair of 18" rims on the back.

I hate these ^^^. Another reason why I'll never mod an econobox again, because no matter how nice mine looks, I know there's 10x more ugly as sin, piles of crap on the road the same as mine.

But...
There are plenty of Imports out there that can stomp on the V8s cruisin around. However, they are sports cars themselves, DSM, Integra Type R, RX-7, Supra, 300/350Z, WRX and so on.

I respect these, and where you can take em with mods. I will probably own some in the future. I actually passed up a DSM Talon, just before I got my stang. Unfortunately due to reading about crankwalk issues with the exact motor that was in the car.

I'd rather have a 300whp turbo Civic than a 300whp nitrous 5.0. There's a local guy running a 95 Civic 4-door with a CRVTEC (B20 w/ B16 head), super budget turbo setup and slicks..ran 11.92 last week. That car is probably $4000 (car included). Torque means dick all when your car weighs less than 2600lbs (or 3400+ in a 5.0's case). Drive a 300+hp Civic. Seriously. I drive my boss' 2006 Civic Si every now and then and even though it only has "197" hp & 138 ft. lbs of torque, it's still way more fun. The VTEC kicks in around 5800 RPM..shift at 8100 and you're in 6000 in the next gear. Torque means nothing there. (Sidenote: Local guy ran 14.5 on a stock Civic Si..barely broken in). One company is already marketing a turbo setup for the K20Z (Civic Si)...373whp @ 9 psi.

Also, FWIW, selling my 5.0 and keeping my 1990 RX-7. The quality and fun factor is miles ahead of anything Ford has given North America in the past few years.

Okay... before this thread gets the big let's settle it.

Rice burners can be fast too guys... there's plenty of horsepower to go around. But the simple fact is, it's $ for $ VERY hard to make a ricer as fast as a Mustang. Sure there are some bad ass rice burners out there.... but the fun factor? Are you kidding me?!

How is driving a Honda more fun than grabbing second gear at 6k, ripping the pavement, tires smoking, exhaust roaring , street rampage of a 5.0?!

It's the same thing with the Corvette guys too.... they are faster than us stock because they paid $45,000 more for it. Like I said, and I think that most everyone would agree.... if you match dollar for dollar with ANY vehicle, the Mustang will be victorious. Plain and simple.

I would say at least for me, it's the FWD that I don't like about most imports. FWD pretty much disqualifies any car as a performance car. A good friend of mine has a GSX eclipse with a stroker motor that is pretty sick. However, his KB 03 cobra is faster..

Yeaaaaaaah........I've already stomped the WRX, the Supra, AND the 350Z, AND I only paid $4,500 for my car with all the mods you see in the signature. Nice try though.

All of the horsepower in the world means nothing if the powerband is only from 6,000 to 8,000 rpm.

Stupid ricers. This is a Mustang Forum, not an ECONOBOX forum.

You just have to ride in one to know...I remember if you werent in the boost and you were cruising in second gear and you floored it as soon as it hit 50 MPH the tires would start screaming (happended to same way everytime without fail. I could set my watch by it) all the way to the end of second and almost all the way through 3rd...and that was with 267HP and a LSD in the front end. I cant imagine how it would be if my motor was vtec and just single track, talk about no traction
