subs under back seat??? anybody?

Well, i started my stereo install yesterday.. kenwood ddx7500, 3 jbl amps, 2 sets of component polks, kenwood music keg, and two 12" polk momo subs. Took the back seat out to run all my wiring to the trunk, and today a thought just popped into my head. After removing the back seat, i noticed all the foam under the seat that actually sits down into the seat wells. Question is.. Has anybody ever removed most of the foam, sealled off the bottoms of the seat wells, and installed subs under the back seat??? The subs only require .88cu ft. of box volume each. i would plan on welding a verticle piece to separate each sides enclosure. Any thoughts?? thanks!- mike

i definitely knew i'd have to dynomat.. no if ands or buts about that. As far as the weight issue, i also know that if i don't wanted dented grills, or destroyed subs, i would definitely have to fabricate and weld some flat stock steel, with maybe a small plate under the center of each seat bottom. As far as the space for the 12's goes.. Well, i'm just guessing here cause i don't have my car right now. It's at my buddies steel shop w/ no front seats, no rear seat, and no rear deck (but lots and lots of wires everywhere)

Here is a pic i found online or a cobra-r with the back seat removed. I think i can get .88cu ft. on each side???? Knowing that one cubic foot = 7.5 gallons... we're probably going to dynomat, and dump 7.5 gallons of sand in there, and see what we got (he better have a real nice shop-vac!!)

Well, i'm not going to remove ALL the foam. I'll try to keep maybe 1/2" or so out of respect for passengers that can actually FIT in the back seat as is. Actually, i'm only planning on removing the section of foam that actually sits "down" into the well... i don't think that section of foam has as much to do with "comfort" as it does to do w/ sound deadening and support. The metal plate with be the support, but there should hopefully still be enough foam for comfort. I'll keep you posted, and i'll be sure to take pics of the install if i decide to give it a go. - Mike
