Does anyone have any suggestions for helping me get the muffler apart from the tailpipes? Its a flowmaster 40 series. I didnt weld it, just used the clamps but I think I may have had them on there way too tight. I can see an indentation from the clamp on the pipes. I hosed it with some PB Blaster just now. Hopefully tommorow they will begin to move apart.

You'll need some luck on your side!

Once they get to that point they are tough. You may need to put the clamp on the other way and try and squeeze it back semi-round, may need to do all kinds of twisting, may need hammering. It might just not come off before you give up.

you could always cut them and have them welded back together again. Its a pain in the ass, but it might be faster than the alternative.

or if you did not overlap them too much, cut a seam into the overlapping pipe (perpendicular to the end of the pipe). you can pry/peel the outer pipe back and slide them out. worst case, once out, cut that part off and weld (or have welded) a new 'extension' on, to replace the mangled part.

good luck.

I got one side off but the other wont come out. Its spins in place but it wont budge apart. I think Ill end up cutting it then if I go to sell the catback I guess ill just have to look for a used GT tailpipe. Oh well.

I was planning to take mine out, and just gave up. My tailpipes wouldnt budge no matter how hard we tried...

I just lowered the rear end out, and pulled the whole catback out as one (well two, for each side) unit. I was selling it and didnt care how the other kid got it in!

"If it jams, force it. If it breaks, it needed replacing anyways."

If not just use one of these.

If that doesn't work use this.

So are you saying that you got the entire catback out with the axle lowered? If so, how long did it take and did you take it from the rear out or from the front up? My patience are becoming extremely limited at this point.

Drop the shocks and the quads and jack one side way up and the other way down and with some effort you can pull the whole thing out without cutting it.

It works great. The passenger side is the bitch to do though. The GTs are a little harder cause the ground fx take away some of the clearance that you have to wiggle the pipes out.

I think once i got it low enough I was able to slide it out the back. This was a long time ago, but Im pretty sure thats the way I went. Taking the rear almost out isnt too bad at all...
