i am deciding on what kind of supercharger to get a vortech s trip standard polished supercharge or go with maybe a paxton novi 2000. i have a auto 2001 mustang gt with a full exhaust setup headers and a hypertech tuner. but i also have parts to install like heads cams trottle body plenum and intake manifold will my engine and tranny hold all that power or will it just blow and if you guys got so recommentments let me know.........
 
I suggest you look into Procharger. I have a Vortech S trim and the design is really pissing me off lately. The vortech bracket is awful, it block the tensioner and wedges the belt between the s/c and motor, making belt changes a fuggin royal pain in the arse. You have to pull bolts from the bracket to back the supercharger off just for a simple belt change. If i could do it again, i wish i got a procharger, the bracket is so much better. I hear it doesnt have any of these issues, plus its self contained oil, so no tapping your oil pan.
 
yaa but how much the procharger go for i have like a 5ooo budget including install
and i dont want to blow my engine or tranny but i heard no problems with a few ppl i know that have vortech they dont have that problem but idk. i wanna rele put out about 400rwhp give or take a few lol b/c i heard the stock tranny and engine can hold up too 400rwhp.......
 
Vortech is the way to go IMO. I know two guys with Prochargers and they didn't make very good power and both had leaking blowers. They both said the IC wasn't nearly efficent as mine.

Your motor should be fine but keep boost around 6-8 psi non-intercolled and 12-13 intercooled. Your tranny should be fine also, what transmission do you have, auto or manual?

I have an automatic and mine is on its way out but I also a making way more power than what a stock block can handle. Plus I race it 2 times a month so its been through quite a bit.

my car is putting down 385 rwhp with a SQ on it , air/fuel is really fat though , 11.3 , 16 degrees of timing with a paxton air/air intercooler , 10 lbs of boost ........put down 370 rwhp on 8lbs without an intercooler , 11.8 air/fuel with 15 degrees of timing with a fairly cooled down engine , car would lose some of that power though when it got a little heat in it ....tunes are usually set to pull timing when the intake air temp gets over 120-130 ...about a degree every 10 degrees above that and you can usually say about 10 or more RWHP from every degreen you pull out from that point .......so if the air intake temps get up to about 160 , you could have as low as 330 rwhp ......depending on how its tuned.......with a chip from vortech , it was only at 340 rwhp when cool ........im going on 20K miles on mine and its holding up great .....with an intercooler , it will be at full power most all the time unless you get stuck in traffic for along time.....im running a 5 speed , autos will dyno less , but usually with quicker shifts the cars are just as fast and the autos keep the boost up higher between shifts so overall sometimes are quicker under boost ....
 
Vortec is a cleaner install this is what I have on my Cobra right now. I had a Procharger on one Mustang about 5 years ago. Prochargers are nice and make good power, but they have crappy air intake set ups. They put the filters in odd positions and I always had trouble with fitting them in the area they wanted them. I actually had to buy a smaller filter than the one they gave me with the kit.

Im making well over 500rwhp on a Mustang Dyno but cant give you an exact number because my convertor was unlocking at aound 5500 RPMs. We rev mine out to 6500 and the car was still making power when the convertor unlocked so I would guess 525+rwhp. Im not sure what that would be on a dynojet but I know it would be quite a bit more.

This was on a hot 90* day with 85% humidity too.
 
Why would a trubo be anybetter than a supercharger...? No Lag!!!

Turbos are way better than superchargers. They make CRAZY power and take 0hp to spin them. Have you ever seen the numbers a turbo car will put down on low boost, can you say torque?

I could have done a custom Turbo setup (57mm) on my car for $4500. My friend knows a guy that dose custom turbos and he even had the guy build the one thats on his 03 Dodge Ram and that thing runs 11.4s on like 10-12 psi. I never knew how much better they were untill after I got the blower. :bang:

yaa turbo has big power but i heard a pretty much stock auto gt like mine would blow the engine and the tranny but 4500 is a very very good price

i seen twin turbo kit for my mustang for 9000 lol./....
 
Hellion makes a kit for our cars, it's just a "little" bit more than the Vortech mongoose kit, however it does not include tuning ($300-$800) - but it does include a tubular front suspension setup.

Turbo setups aren't super expensive, people are just scared of them because there aren't as many cars running around with them (besides turbo 4cly stangs, but those don't count :rlaugh:). Things can be done real cheap if you do them yourself as well ;) For me to swap to a turbo kit wouldn't cost hardly anything - I already have the supporting stuff from my mongoose kit so all I would need is hot side/headers, turbo, wastegate, optional boost controller, couple othe nick nacks and I already have a FMIC adequate bypass, and full tubular front end :nice:

Advantages of a turbo over a blower are easy to see...very little parasitic power loss (so you can achieve more RWHP at lower, safer boost levels)...wooshing sounds...spooling...brake boosting... rofl Also, if you're talking about "lag", just get in a centri car where it doesn't hit boost till nearly 3k rpm, and that's just 1psi, then you gotta wait for it to build power...and then you gotta worry about belt slip so you don't loose precious boost, so new belt every 10 minutes, 8-rib setup, etc etc...
 
question i have 85 mustang with a paxton 1200 supercharger i noticed when driving on the high way i get no boost or very low boost maybe 1 pound or 2 but when i let off the gas i get 4 pounds or 5 pounds of boost why does this seem like the charger is working backwards please email me or post here if you can help me out [email protected]
