I want to drop my car around 1 inch even less. I have some horrible speed bumps I need to get over every weekend. I am on a budget. I was wonderin which springs are the best for comfort looks and handling. Will springs also improve my handling or will I need shocks. I am between the Ford C springs, Steeda, and H&R springs. Thanks.

I have an 02 GT automatic, sorry I already created a signature. I was looking for a good cheap drop. The bullit is around 500 which is a great price. But right now I'm only looking to drop the car around 1 inch. I would like the same handling not worse and the same ride. I can't have too rought the roads aroudn here really suck. Thanks.

How bad can your roads be? Couldn't be any worse than Pa, Nj, Ohio unless you're in one of them, you can have up to a 2" drop and still go over speed bumps

My roads are really bad. I go to Juarez Mexico accross the border a lot. Right on the bridge a poor woman and her kids got run over by a drunk. So they installed a set of speedbumps that are i'd say 1/3 foot high with a foot and a half of width. O and the speed bump is like a trapezoid. So its like offroading. Im really worried about scraping. Plus on the bridge there is also this jump that when I'm all alone on the road I floor it and I fly through the air. Very fun and highly recommended and I wouldn't want the bottom of my car to hit that at 80kmh. So I'm not too sure how much to lower it. Ill try to take a pick.

Hahahaha, its like just a big jump. My seat belt holds me down while I jump. My suspension bottoms out at the bottom of the jump then I just take off at the top because my suspension is compressed. Its really freaking awesome I tell ya. Oh and will I need new shocks if I install the springs.

That is exacltly what I needed. You can do what I did: Buy some used Mach 1 springs for cheap ($50-$75 on E-bay). They will drop you about 1/2 inch and the ride will only be slightly stiffer. The handling will be greatly improved (more neutral) and you will still have excellent ground clearance. You will not need camber plates and the stock alignment will be fine. Also, this is very important for ride quality; buy some new polyurethane isolators ($25) for a smoother ride. As with any lowering springs, your stock shocks may not hold after a while but you can replace them later. PM me if you have any other questions.

Mel just said...get the Mach 1 springs :p
Springs do the lowering/ride height modifying, everything else just supports for the most part. Lowering the ride height will add stress to shocks/struts and will cause them to prematurely die more than likely. Thats why the FRPP kit is nice because you get everything for a very good price.

Like Cobra showed you, it's a nice drop...

The more I look at my car though the more I want 18x10's in the rear...

Mel96GT thanks a lot for the info. Its exactly what I'm looking for. But will I need to get springs or are they the same in the GT as the Mach1.

 I'm not sure I understand your question. However, they are NOT the same as the GT's. My Mach 1 springs are from a 2003 Mach 1 Mustang and they are stiffer. The fronts are approx. 600 lb/in vs the GT springs which are 450 lb/in. The rear springs are about 250 lb/in vs the GT which are 210 lb/in. Trust me, you will be very happy with these springs.

Remember, the Mach 1 springs were designed by Ford engineers to enhance a Mustang's handling while maintaining decent ride quality and adequate ground clearance (which is exactly what you are looking for).

I'm in the same situation right now. I've had my Ford C springs for about 6 years now and i'm sick of 'em. If your local streets are smooth than they are fine. If not, Go with something else. I'm going to try the Ford B springs which have the stock smoothness with a 1.2 drop in the front and 1" in the back. I think H&R has a spring with rates close to the B but i'm looking for smooother :) Good luck!

you don't need a spring compressor, or remove the sway bar.

front:
jack up
remove tire
remove 15mm caliper bolts (x2)
tuck caliper away, or hang with wire
remove tie rod (cotter pin, and castle nut 13mm?)
remove spring, reverse

rear:
jack up, and support by frame
remove wheel
compress 1 side slightly
disconnect the quad shock by where it connects to the lca or axle
remove bottom shock bolt
slowly lower it until you're able to remove the spring

make sure the ends of the rear springs point toward the drivers side.
