Cone filter and turn up the boost to 17-18 (pushing the a4ld a bit) maybe 16. If you have the funds do the 3" downpipe and exhaust. You will want to get rid of the one legger rear end too. You can slap a traction lock differential in there from an Aerostar, Ranger, Turbocoupe and a couple others.

You can only swap a Turbocoupe trak-lok in if you have an 8.8 rear....the others will fit, they're 7.5's.

Hold on, what kind of tune up did you do? Platinum plugs are a BIG no no on a turbo motor! What plugs wires are you running?
Im not gonna tell you how to turn up the boost until you get the little things done mister! gonna go blow your bottom end out the tailpipe

Ash,

The 83-86 Turbocoupes were 7.5's the 87-88's were 8.8's!!

our turbo motors are picky, but in a good way. they love cheap coper core motorcraft plugs and and motorcraft wires. If you dont do a motorcraft tuneup, chances are 95% of the time you will have problems , such as misses..bad idle, detonation ...etc. Ford designed these cars...and they are the exception becuase they really only do well with OEM ignition equipment.

Get over the aftermarket ignition already. MOTORCRAFT is the way to go.

You can Gut the upper and Port the lower and then get a header or a ported exhaust manifold along with the ported head if you want. Hey, why not.

Platinums burn to hot!!! Will melt piston tops! Run motorcraft or autolights gapped at 32. Use all ford cap, rotor button, cap and the factory coil will do you the best over the rest.
Also use Ford wires. I know it's expensive stiick with high test gas.
A set of brown tops or better if you aint got them. You look around you can get a set cheap!!!
An adjustable fuel pressure regulator and a 225 lph fuel pump. By then you will be ready for the t-5 because you will need it!!
