Sway bar clearance

I bought a 1 1/8" sway bar from Mustang's Plus and started to put it on today. I've still got everything loosely mounted and noticed that the bar doesn't line up with the notches in the frame where the factoy bar was. The new one sits back about an 1" further and hits the frame.

I don't have the factoy one to compare it to anymore to see how different they are. Is it supposed to be this way or is it formed wrong?

Just trying to make sure it's right before I whip out the grinder for some "clearancing".

I'm not really sure what you mean by it not lining up where the stocker went. The first part of mounting a front sway bar is to bolt it to the frame in the original holes, so it pretty much HAS to go where the stocker went. As far as it hitting or rubbing on the frame, I assume you mean the frame is a tad wider than the bar and it hits evenly on both sides, in which case a little grinding is perfectly acceptable. In any case, just unbolt the end links, then bolt the bar to the stock mounts, center it, grind any needed clearance, then bolt up the ends to the control arms. If your car's lowered, you may need to shorten the end links to keep the center of the bar off the ground and don't forget to lube the bushings to keep the thing from squeeking and you should be fine.

Lot's of us have had to bend that lip on the bottom part of the frame to fit the 1 1/8" sway bar. I have done it several times. I use the BFH to get the job done.

I had the same problem with it and because my car is lowered I found that the car was actually sitting on the new sway bar when I put the car down. However, I found a really easy fix for my situation which should work for everyone. Use a shorter bolt on you lower A arm and take out the spacer between the bushings.
When you do that it rotates the sway bar slightly and clears the frame considerably.

Thanks. I was starting to wonder if I was explaining myself correctly. I had it in my brain that the bar should be the same exact shape, just a larger diameter, therefore it should hit the same spot that has already been clearenced on the lip on the bottom of the frame from the stock sway bar..

Alright a little clearancing it is. We need a smiley with a hammer.
