Synthetic oil in a high mileage motor ok?

Well I hear that the 5w-20 oil is a semi synthetic anyway and am jsut wondering if with the mileage in my sig if synthetic will hurt me more than help me? As far as I have seen there is no oil leaks anywhere and the motor runs great..so great that I am doubting it's the original mileage on it..reason I ask all this is walmart has the 5 quarts of synthetic oil for the same price as dino oil (both mobil1 of course) so if its the same price I thought I may stock up and jsut start running synthetic mobil1 5w-30..any one?

mine has like 115,000 on it and i started putting synthetic mobil1 in it and it made it a LOT more quite and smooth ! and no oil leaks at 4 months.....

Sounds like I may make the swap...how much more expensive is this oil normally? I want to make sure I can still afford to do this even after its off sale...heard you shouldnt go back and forth with synthetic and dino oil

I have 95k on my '99 and debated going to synthetic from castrol 5w30. However, I decided it wasn't worth the risk and I haven't had any problems so far. I will probably go to the Castrol High Mileage 5w30 at some point, but once again if it ain't broke then why mess with it?

it was like 30.00$ .. but you dont change it like dino , just change the filter and add a quart.....

change filter at 3k and add 1 quart ? not to bad..what interval should it be changed with synthetic?

Basically you can have issues of leaking with synthetic.

If all you gaskets and seals are in good order you will be fine.

my .02 is try it. if it leaks go back to dino or try a blend. Or on the flipside if it is leaking somewhere that gasket or seal is proably bad or bordline anyway so you could replace it.

I never heard of that. I thought you just change it like regular oil.

same as what I was thinking..however as far as I know you can go a longer amount of time with it but I would think acid would become a problem..

yes it does , but you dont need to change it like regular oil. it holds up longer , but the filter needs to be replaced every 3k or so ... i am going to change mine every other time , so every 6k , but at 3k change the filter and add a quart.... but thats just me ... do some research on it for yourself...
