t-5 rebuild

I am replacing 1st and 2nd gear as well as the slider in my WC t5. I won a first gear off ebay and was said that it came off of a camaro 34t. hanlon motor told me that the ford and chevy gears wont enterchange. When you compare the 2 the look exactly the same. I even slid the first gear onto the shaft and slider locks into it and everything looks right. The seller didnt act like he was forsure what it came out of.
