t-56 in fox

I'm looking to put a t-56 six speed in my 89 gt and i'm wondering if i have to buy the 2500 dollar kit from ford motorsports or can i use one out of a trans am camaro vette or 4.6 with the change of a bell housing? I know i'll have to switch to 26 spline clutch and shorten drive shaft. If anyone out there has done this swap from one of these cars your help would be greatly appreciated.

you can use any t56 but you will need a 5.0 / 5.8 bell housing.

If your going to buy a new trans i would check out D&D performance They sell everything for the swap in one bolt on kit for the 79-93's

Some of the ones i've seen are set up for hydrolic.. Can i jst remove all that and put a mechanical fork and cable in??..

I don't think you can use just ANY T-56. I've done quite a lot of research on the subject and the the main thing I've found is that you have to find one that has the mechanical speedometer connection. Aside from that, the bellhousing is what determines if its hydraulic or not...so as long as you use the 5.0 bellhousing for the T-56, you should be fine. Oh, and you have to relocate/fabricate your own crossmember....and get a longer speedo cable.

When I have money, I'm just buying the D&D kit. Everything is done and you just bolt it in.
