My car has just in the last week started making a consistant sqeeking/grinding sound that is always there when the clutch is out wether in neutral or in gear, and when clutch is fully pressed the sound comes back but with a lower sound (not so high putched) however if i just put a small amount of pressure on the clutch pedal (enough to press the T/O bearing upto the pressure plate) then the sound goes a away mostly. tonight i got in and started it and now i can almost hear the ball bearings rolling and they dont sound good. i dont understand why its getting like this, the T/O bearing was replaced in april and has less than 8k miles on it. Is it still saveable ( can i grease or oil it from the acess hole?) or is it pretty much toast and now i gotta pull it all back apart for $15 dollar part that failed??

thank you,
Ryan K

on the v6 i used to have, my throwout bearing whent bad with only 45k on the car. with me, at first it wasnt too bad but it started to get worse and worse. what was happening was the car was making a small sound when the clutch was out, u push the clutch in a bit more the sound got louder and when u push the cltuch all the way in, the sound whent away. i just replaced the whole clutchkit and flywheel to save trouble if my clutch whent out in the future. if i where u i guess i would do the same thing. i am not sure how many miles u have, but if ur a 99, ur clutch could be going within the next 20-50 thousand anyway so u might as well pay the extra few hundred to get the whole clutch replaced while they are getting in their.

It's definitely your TOB squeaking. Maybe it wasn't installed correctly. But from what I've heard, they still will last quite a while even when they slightly squeak. But if you're hearing a grinding noise as well, it might just be that you got lucky and got a bad part. I would check into it if it's grinding.

my gt had the same problem at just under 14K when i first got it. By pumping the clutch the sound would go away. After i started driving the car real hard the sound disapeared and hasn't returned, since then i've almost doubled the HP and it hasn't broken so i wouldn't replace it until it goes

Mines done the same thing since I bought the car new. It drives me nuts and is worse when it is hot out but the Ford Dealer dosen't seem to care.

As you can see, the squeaking is unfortunately common, but i would be concerned with the grinding. Mine squeaks, crapola but it does not grind at all.
