T-Top Swap

Whats up guys.....i have an 88 mustang LX four banger....my question is will an 84 or 83 mustang 5.0 roof fit on an 88 lx?....i was at my local junk yard tp get a fender when i realized that the car i was taking it off had a set of T-Tops. Being that i have cut roofs off before to put cages in them i was like damn that be sweet on my four banger. So let me know what you guys think i see no reason why it wouldnt work but let me know......email me if you want its [email protected], thanks again.

Yeah thats what i was thinking.....but i have cut off the roofs of them to put cages in them for my racecar and put them right back on but i know thats different cause its the same one. i need to be pretty precise where i cut them both so the windshield will fit right. I just wasnt sure if i have to re-shape the roof or if when i cut them in the same spot if the 84 roof will match right up with the 88 chassis......still not sure i think im gonna take alot of measurments before any slicing and dicing happens lol....thanks for the reply any other opinions guys?

It can be done and has been done before.

Just make sure you grab the doors and interior trim as well. The doors are convertible doors but the glass inside them is different so that it will seal up against the T-tops.

So i need the doors and interior trim.......i dont know why the doors wouldnt work on the car that are on it but if you say so i guess i could always go back and grab em.....also they make trim kits you can buy for **** like that right? Also all the weather stripping needs to be redone on it cause its shot i was wondering if they sold those kits too.......thanks for the replies guys keep em coming....

It's not so much the doors that you need, its the glass inside. The door frame on solid and sunroof cars goes around the glass. On T-top and convertible cars the glass seals against the convertible top and the t-tops. You need the t-top glass as there is a different curve to it.

I beleive you can modify your doors to work. You'd have to switch the glass and get the weather stripping that goes up the B-pillars and near the mirror.

Parts for T-top cars are rare and expensive and hard to come by. The interior trim is gonna run you several hundred dollars alone. Take what you can.

You might be better off buying the entire car out of the boneyard so you can take your time and get every little peice. That's the way I would do it.
