Hey All,

I'm trying to figure a few things out before I go ahead with my 5speed swap.
What kind of fluid does a T5 take? The tranny guy told me 90 weight gear oil,the speed shop near me said to use Royal purple Synchromax and a buddy told me ATF. I just want a straight answer.

Also, can anyone tell me the threading/lenth/size of the the top to bellhousing bolts and the transmission to bellhousing bolts?

Thanks for the help in advance.

fluid depends on whether the trans is world-class (post-82) or not. the pre-world-class t5's use straight gear oil. not sure what year yours is, but most t5's out there are world-class (betting yours is), which use atf. the royal purple crap is just one brand of it, use whichever you feel comfortable with.

for the bolts, the thread is a 7/16-14, lenght is probably 1.5" or so. grade8 bolts are fairly cheap, so get a couple different lengths at the local hardware store.

Is there a tag on the tailhousing? If so, post up the numbers.

If not, easiest was is the front bearing cup

Well it looks like I got a non world class transmission. So then it does take gear oil.

One more question. For my swap what do I do about the neutral safety stuff? Can I leave everything under the dash alone and just tie the two wires in the tunnel together? I don't really want the neutral safety so I'm just trying to bypass.

Is it even a Mustang T-5?

The only NWC Mustang T-5's didn't even have the nuetral safety harness. So if you have a harness on the top, and it's NWC, i would question if the trans is even going to work.

As to what to do? It's really simple. Under the dash, there are two plugs taped up on the front left corner. Just plug them into the clutch safety switch.

Under the car, get a reverse harness from an 86+ Manual mustang. Just plug it into the body harness and plug it into the T-5 and that's reverse and your NSS. The plug on the top of the trans can dangle as long as you use an Auto computer still.

The trans is a T5 my buddy got off a transmission shop two years ago and he ran it in his '85 GT until he decided to go big block sonow it's mine. The only harness on the trans is for reverse lights. Now the pedal assembly I got is bare no sensors or anything on it and I'm assuming thats where the clutch safety switch is?

Yes, they would mount on the clutch pedal.

Your AOD setup already has the plugs jumpered out under the dash. No need to do anything. Keep in mind cruise will not disengage if you push in the clutch as well
