Now you know what people do with a T5. 3rd gear goes when powershifting. I have actually seen a worked over world class T5 go 6.90s in the 1/8 but that was granny shifiting it.

Getting a TKO over here will cost a fortune. But since I can get a T5 core easy and cheap, I can have these parts brought over piece by piece to avoid the 30% in duty and VAT plus the outrageous shipping costs.
It all depends, the TKO will never blow up. The G-force, if you are putting down 350rwhp and then spraying it, probably won't last too long. A good friend of mine had a G-force with the upgraded mainshaft putting down 450ish rwhp on a 306 with a novi 2000 and the mainshaft broke into 3 pieces.
On top of that he sent it back to G-force because it was after 5 passes at the track it broke and then they tried to say that he installed it incorrectly etc . . . They were a pain in the ass over their product and came on our forum (streetcarforums) trying to discredit him. It was a bad situation. Basically he got rid of the G-force and went to a TKO 600 and a year later/50 passes/3,000 street miles it is holding up fine.
I didn't think about the bike analogy, that's a good one. But a dog ring box for a 3000+ # car will not shift as "neatly" as a motorcycle. I do have a crotch rocket, and those motors have so little rotational inertia that the shifts are as smooth as any grocery getter. I still have to admit I've been tempted to try one on the street! But they cost way too much for such an experiment. I would probably hate it after a few months.
I have the G Force T5 Close Ratio Straight Cut Dog Gear trans for road racing and it's an absolute blast! You only need to use the clutch for 1st and reverse. Upshifting requires one only to lift slightly on the throttle and quickly and diliberately shift to the next gear...no clutch. Downshifting requires one to match revs using the clutch. (One can downshift without the clutch if one matches the revs PERFECTLY every time). Gear changes are lightning quick and the gear whine due to the straight cut teeth is music to the ears!
This trans has just been freshened and is available for purchase. These custom trans' are $$$! I no longer need the five speed and will be using a 4speed Jerico with closer gearing.
I also have a dog ringed helical gear t5. it is not my daily driver but I find it very streetable I drive it everywhere, it can be shifted nicely when driving slow with the clutch just ingage clutch remove from gear blip throttle and slip her in. the car is also used for open track events @wsir.

Oh, thanks guys! I had decided against one for my '65, which will be an almost daily driver, but now you've got me thinking about it again. One question. Any idea how many street miles one could run before needing dog replacement? Thanks.
