T5 rebuild Question

I am rebuilding a T5 from a '83 SVO, I have everything torn down ready to reinstall except I am unsure how to remove first gear, and rear bearing cone off. Any easy suggestions that I can do myself instead of having a shop do it?

Take the snap ring off, and basically get a plate of AL and drop the mainshaft down onto it. It should help free up the bearing.
