I am going to be doing the T5 swap on my car in November. I have been following the parts list/instructions on the West Coast Fords Website (please let me know if there are any better websites). I have about all the parts together but Im not sure what bolts I need and what I can reuse from the AOD. It lists that I need:

-upper bell housing bolts
-pressure plate bolts
-starter plate to bell housing bolts
-transmission to bell housing bolts

Here is the website I got this info from:

http://www.wcfords.com/articles/tech/t5swap/t5swap.html

Also, would you recommend changing the throw out bearing retainer from the stock aluminum piece to a steel retainer?

If you recommend changing anything else other than what they listed or see something they forgot....please list it. I am doing this project on a weekend while my girlfriend is out of town and I want to get it done....not wait around on parts. Thanks.

The bearing retainer is a good and cheap upgrade.

The starter bolt are the same for both.

Most important in a t5 convertion is the shifter, start out with a good aftermarket one like a pro5.0. It will be the best investment you could buy in extending the life of a tranny.

Aslo should replace the quadrant with a afermarket, while you are doing it. much easier to do now.

I would recomend the mirco click kit from http://www.fioreperformanceparts.com/

the steel bearing retainer is a fantastic idea, but not 100% required if your alum one is not grooved.

The flywheel bolts from an aod are indeed shorter, although I've used them before, I'd suggest getting the proper ones. FYI, ARP has a flywheel bolt kit for $8, and can be had from summit. Grab that kit, as those bolts get 85 pounds of torque, so it's always a good idea to replace those.

Do NOT get the flexplate bolt kit from ARP, although it's listed for all model years, they're standard bolts, and won't work on 86-93 setups. From what I understand, ford racing offers a new pressure plate bolt kit, just be sure you get the 86-93 "metric" kit, as they're metric bolts. If you can't find them, I've gone to the parts store before, just get some good bolts that work, grade 5 or 8. They only take 24 pounds of torque though, so they don't have to be too super duper.

as for the bellhousing bolts, the 4 bottom bolts from your aod will work fine, but the top two are longer. It's not necessary to replace those bolts though, just stick a short stack of washers on them to take up the space. You'll never see it and it'll work the same.

I do believe the aod block plate to bell bolts can be re used. If not, they're not 100% essential, just drive it to a hardware store and find some that fit.

when i did my swap, i reused my flexplate bolts. . . . i had to buy pressure plat bolts. And the only bolts i have problem with were to bellhousing to motor bolts. . . they all fit great accept for the upper two bolts which are too long . I threw some spacers on them and used them
