I completely missed him saying back it off. Think I was more focused on the video than what he was saying. Both my Pro5.0's touch on every shift. I beat the snot out of my T5 and knock on wood have never lost a gear. I will say if the transmission was whining in 2nd gear and was getting louder before it broke someone should have been smart enough to know to quit driving it.

Is ok sometimes we overlook things. In that sense and remembering what I did when I was setting the shifter stops now I remember that I didn't back off the bolt after it touched the shifter shaft. instead I back it off a bit then inserted a 0.010" filler gauge and then tighten the jam nut. Actually I followed this video instruction from LMR/Steeda which makes a lot of sense to me.

Yeah I know what you're saying my friend should have stop driving it but he didn't pay much attention to that warning.

Thank you for your ideas/suggestions

Simply too much power IMO
I did just about the same thing to my toploader in my Boss 302 in '88

I could be wrong but to be honest I don't think 300hp is a power the T5 could handle. I think something else played a roll on this failure.

Thank you

Trying to remember every step from when I did that rebuild. One of the things that got a bit strange to me was that the new synchros (Carbon fiber) were too tight. When I finished assembling the main shaft it was really hard to spin the first second and third gears but I didn't pay that much of attention. when I finished assembling the whole transmission it was really hard to spin the input or the output shaft in neutral... Now I'm thinking could the second gear synchro was too high pushing and overloading the second gear against the countershaft gear and both gear got too hot and burned off braking themselves at the end? I noticed too much steel dust on the magnet for a few months old rebuild.

What do you guys think? I'm starting to believe that that was the reason for this failure. And if that was the case what to do when I put the transmission back together? How tight is too tight? I've never got this problem before.

Thank you.

Watch these videos with regards to rebuilding a T5. Paul is a T5 guru and Eric is pretty funny but knowledgeable:

Part 1 - Part 2 - Followup -https://youtu.be/BhbI4c6UFiQ

I do remember the input, cluster, and main shaft getting preloaded 0.002" on this last rebuild on my T5. I say this but I did ask my buddy why he did that and it was due to new bearings. He said that if we were just freshening it up and using the existing bearings he would have put it at 0.000". He is way faster and better at it than I am (he broke a lot of them on nitrous passes with slicks) so he got pretty good at figuring out what broke and why and they started lasting longer but the ulitmate fix was a TKO.

Also, according to Astro Transmissions it appears Tremec has quit making parts for the T5's so once the Tremec parts are gone they are gone. I ended up putting an aftermarket 2nd in my T5 this last time (dog/clutch teeth were suspect).

Yeah I watched that video part 1 and 2 and more videos from Paul Cangialosi, interesting videos.
I did the pre loading following Paul's suggestions.
I'm sure we all running out of good quality Tremec parts and will settle using cheap aftermarket parts.
