Just bought a 5" tach and i'm no wiring guru. I know one goes to coil, one to ground (i can do that). Now, I don't know which wire off the light switch to wire into and I dont know how to wire to the ignition? Can someone help me out with these 2 wires? thanks

you can use any key hot for your power. and for the coil it goes to the - side. for the lights hook to your dash lights that way you can dim them.

ditto... i'd hook the lights to accs so you can dim them. and that way the tach light wont stay on all the time, which would be the case if you just connected to your ignition/main.

Here's how to wire the tach, or at least what wire connects to what.

• Red = key on power supply

• Black = common chassis ground

• White = dash lighting power

• Green = tachometer signal for standard or electronic ignitions

• Yellow = used only on Internal Coil Magneto tachometers as the signal wire

• Twin Black = (looks like a lamp cord) is used on External Coil Magneto tachometers that use an inductive pick up (#5210)

• Gray = for tachometers that use a Hi/Lo shift light. When grounded, Lo shift light point is active. When ungrounded, Hi shift light point is active.

• Blue = used on Playback tachometers to start recording (see playback tachometer instructions)

Here is the wire you must tap the tachometer into and it's location.

Tachometer Signal Wire Installation
for 5.0 engine(s)
Dark green with yellow stripe wire at ignition coil

Hope this helps.
