Tail housing...

How do I remove the tail housing of my tranny? Do i have to remove the crossmember and use a jack to keep my tranny stable? I am trying to replace the seal on the tail housing...not sure if it is the tail housing, it is the last part of the tranny...has six bolts and is right before the pan...i think it is called either the tail housing or the output shaft...i just need some help...thanks.

Should be able to replace the seal just by taking the driveshaft out.

Never heard of someone pulling the tailhousing for that

i'm assuming you have already removed the driveshaft speed sensor and crossmember as i start the instructions below...
How do I remove the tail housing of my tranny? Do i have to remove the crossmember and use a jack to keep my tranny stable? yes but it is easier to remove the tranny from the car at the bellhousing leaving bell housing in place then remove the shifter. Using a drift punch drive the roll pin through the offset lever within the shifter housing. The pin will bottom out but not be retrievable at this point.Remove the eight 15mm tailhousing bolts.While holding the offset lever inside the shifter area, tap the case with a hammer to break the tailshaft housing free of the case. Do not attempt to pry between the mating surfaces.removed buy sliding it straight back until it is off the shifter shaft and main shaft. retrieve roll pin install gasket and reinstall tail shaft in reverse of removal.....now you are talking about replacing the gasket between the case and the tail shaft right because you do not need to remove tail shaft to replace rear seal....
