No revolutionary new cage design for sure Lol . Years ago I had a Capri that had a cheap diy cage with door bars and I'd trip over them while smashing my head into the roof bar. So my remedy was to flatten (oval if you will lol) the roof bar and modify the door bars.
My question is if they were oval on the roof sections would they fit better and would they be weak ?

I would say it's all about how strong a "circle" is and how well it disperses energy. Compared to how much easier it would be to crush something with a flat surface. I imagine an oval would be the same thing. Tip of an egg vs sides of an egg kind of thing.

Probably why they don't build them out of eggs either

I'm guessing notching and fitting oval shaped tube is a little difficult as well.
I have seen that square tubing cages are a thing in the off-road world, but those people are on a different planet IMO

Yes the oval bar would have the strength and weakness characteristics similar to 2x4 lumber. Stronger when force is applied to the short face, weaker when the force is applied to the long face. Circular tubing does not have a weak angle and has less surface area so it's lighter weight than square or rectangular tubing.

Here's a fun update.

My coupe is very straight. It's been painted underneath and the floors and engine bay were painted and sealed, rust free etc etc.

Except....
the cowl had been damaged and "repaired". You could see the poor filler work on the passenger side, and the drivers side was even worse. But I was aware of it, and it was still cheap enough to carry on with the purchase.

Fast forward to a couple days ago and it's flip flopped between 50s and freezing ass cold enough that the Bondo on the drivers side seperated from the sheet metal and there was a nice sized crack.
Which I turned into this fine crater you see before you
(any women or small children should leave the room now, I'll wait)

It was over 1/8" thick in some places. They didn't bother to pull the dent at all. Just gobbed in filler until it was perfect...if you stood back 20' and squinted real hard

The other side is much better but still terrible.

Previously the only real option was to find a clean cowl on a JY car and cut it out. Then go home. Pull the hood and fenders and cowl vent and windshield and the glovebox and left taillight and then drill out the spot welds under the windshield, and patch in your new piece. Sounds like a blast.

Turns out there's an alternative... If you don't mind ditching the windshield wipers.

Scottrod is making the extension pieces to cover this area. Paired with the cowl vent delete and I think it's a nice looking alternative.
I've ordered it in satin black.

Thread was Pretty dead, stopped updating it.
Probably due to the frequency of vehicle changes. Keep killing off the main characters and it's hard to watch the show lol

Had a chance to do a big project I've been itching to do since I bought my corvette and was able to make a decent PROFIT for once so it went down the road.
Started the corvette project last week.

Won't be a big brake kit. They're z06 quarters, so will be able to fit a 12" wheel and a 345 tire.
