tapping noise Injectors?

SO Im getting a tapping noise under load? at idle the engine of quiet and at speed it;s quiet but under load (accelerating) it gets loud especailly with the top down.. someone Mentioned that bad injectors could make that sound ?? it has a recent oil change with a heavier oil and have good oil presure ( dead middle at idle) I know ya can't really tell because its something you'd have to hear it person but I was just curious! What kind injectors should I get on a91 5.)l 140,000 minor bolt ons ( headers,throttle body,intake) also the spark plug wires are grey and have 1991 on them any chance they are the originals? any ideas on what plugs,wires caps to buy ???
 
Injectors don't get louder. They remain constant in sound.

The tapping could be a rocker. It could either be loose, a spring could have failed, or the hydraulic lifter is bleeding down putting slack in pushrod.

Can you ID what side of the engine it's from?
 
An exhaust leak would get louder as the RPM's come up and could sound like a ticking sound. Can you post a video or sound clip?

If you still want to replace the injectors, 19lbs stock replacements are what you want with your mods.

\\yeah what I originally thought something like a lifter or something but then someone mentioned the injector noise.... I guess it's like a spray can sound yeah !...
 
That's pinging/detonation. What's your timing set to? What octane are you running? Grab a timing light and check your timing. Set it to 10 degrees and start running 93 octane.

Are you running platnium plugs? That tends to cause detonation as well. Replace them with OEM motorcraft copper plugs.

Definitely a good time to do a tuneup. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, change the fuel filter and reset timing to 10 degrees and see if that eliminates the problem.
 
what might make sense I think it still has all the original ignition stuff... plus its running a little rich I think.. that would explain way there's no noise at idle.. if it was lifters etc you should be able to hear it @ idle with the hood open ... the plug wires are marked 1991 on each one could that be the originals?
