Terminator or S-197

termi over a s197 any day of the week.

have you considered some boost for your gt instead? something like a mph mongoose kit? or even a standard vortech kit or kb? with the right pulley and good tune your gt will be a little faster then a stock termi. but how many of those do you really run into these days?

They both are good cars. Most cobras I see are going for 21-25k. Most 05+ stangs are going for 15-18k. If your parents are saying they will only help you with the s197 then go for that. Do a 93 oct tune and exhaust, you will be putting out close to 300 rwhp if not a little more. Through 4.10 gears on it and you will have a high 12 second car. Down the road you can put a supercharger on it. Seems like they are very easy to push 420+rwhp. Then you will have a newer car that still is very fast. Also in 2 months when they show the 2010 stangs I think the prices of the 05+ will go down in price even more.

Honestly, swap out your solid axle for a IRS with a cobra owner for free who wants one. Or keep you car lighter by staying solid axle. Buy 13" brakes for $359. Buy a T-56. Then either buy a 03 cobra engine or supercharge your 2V past where a cobra is stock. Buy some body panels. What's that, $4-6k? And your insurance would still be the same. If you want a new solid car with a warranty - buy a S-197.

I say keep what you have until you can purchase the car on your own with out mom and dad's help. Good luck selling your car for Blue Book value also, there is a huge difference between that price and market value. Look around and you will see that 99-04 GT's are not worth much at all, even with extremely low miles. It's sad but true.

the market value around here is about 14-16k at the dealerships. . . bluebook is 11 so i'd probably try to get around 13 if i can find someone who wants it. the insurance wouldnt be any more expensive. . . 650 for 6 months for the cobra

what im probably gunna do is just save up til mid next summer and sell my car around blue book which is 11 now. it dropped $5,500 in value in only a year though so thats why i wanna get out while i can and get a cobra

Good luck.

I tried to get $10K for my '03 GT earlier this summer and couldn't even do that.

Private sales are tought. Dealers can finance so they sell cars at a higher price easily. Private owners don't finance, and not many people have $10K cash to spend or put the effort into getting a loan from a bank. Plus there are usually stipulations to the age of a car and mileage that may prevent them from buying your car.

That was the biggest problem i faced. Either people didn't have the cash and offered me 8000-9000, couldn't get a bank loan, or just figured a dealer would be less hassle to get financed through.

Good luck.

That's exactly right.

Ya know a turn off is if you spend over $9999 it has to be reported to the IRS, even a form you gotta fill out for it now. Some people might avoid it cause they wana stay under the radar.

And OP, no way will you get above book on that car unless it has under 10K miles and mabey a forged block or some super amount of mods
This is my buddies car, 03 GT 5 speed. This car was $7000 and has a plenum, gears, tune, Bassani, H-pipe, CAI, Grill delet, wheels, short shifter. And is super clean in and out.

There is a lot to be said for no car payment too. If you're 20 and dont have a car payment, and you have a clean GT, why go into debt. You have got a lot of years ahead of you to make some cash on your own and buy that dream car. There is always some car out there that everybody wishes they could have/afford, but if you have to go into debt to do it, its not worth it. Owing money sucks, even if its to your parents. I say keep your car, but you're going to do what you want at 20yo, so i hope you make the right decision. Good Luck. :nice:

:stupid: I agree with that. No car payment are sweet!!! As soon as i had the money to pay off my loan i did it. Best thing i could have done. I know there are faster stangs out there but i don't care. Plus there aren't any around here. Too many ricers around but no stangers. Ok well one termi(which is faster i know) and a few other stangs but none of them ever do local meets. Anyways I'd rock the GT until you start making some real money then go from there. Thats my plan. But its your money/life and only you get to live it. Good luck man.:nice:
