Well after an all night spring install, Paul and I got the Steeda springs on the Cobra. The good news is it looks and handles good without dropping it too much so I can put a 3 inch catback on it. The bad news, I take it to get it aligned and the right rear spindle/bearing is shot and you can move the wheel back and forth and up and down. :bang:

My question is. Is it safe to drive up to Seattle area? Or should I down the car immediately?

P.S. It is Ford's fault as they just replaced my halfshafts... Now I get to demod again.... :nonono:

I wouldnt run it anywhere because a wheel bearing can get smokin hot when it is going bad. my $0.02

Dang thats a bummer Jordan, sorry to hear that.Maybe ford did it when they replaced your half shafts  ..Did you decide to go with a 3 inch exhaust or are you still interested in my Borla stingers? If not i'll probably get another exhaust anyway and have a back up exhaust to add with my collection. I wouldnt run it either with a bad bearing you could have a little flame action going on if it gets hot enough, now youve got $0.04 of input :D

Yes, Ford did it when they changed the axles. It was the noise I had thought was the rubber cv boots.

I have decided to go with the MAC 3 inch catback. I'm going for more of a deep old school musclecar rumble sound.
Thats a good choice,im thinking of a 3 inch too,but I really want stainless and i'm worried about clearance, that would stink if every time you hit a bump you have rubbing, I went threw that on my 03 gt with a 2 1/2 inch...it was a pain to get it wright..fitment wasnt very good with my mac that I had and had couple of pin holes in the welds on the pro chamber,im not trying to knock thje exhaust you want......just want you to be happy with your choice, you might be better off with the flowmasters if they fit better and I think quailty control is better :nice:

A 3 inch would be fine on yours Ed since you haven't lowered your car. That is why I chose the Steeda springs with isolators. It is about the same height as before in the rear. The front is about 3/4 inch lower. I think its perfect. The MAC does have a rep for bad fitment but this new 3 inch design has adjustable tips. I looked around and there are very few 3 inch systems out there. It came down to a choice between MAC and Dynomax. Tou/Dark Vador runs the Dynomax 3 inch system and he is fine. His car is not lowered though. With this new setback, I may not be able to get to tune it and test it before the season ends.

I'm really getting tired of doing pulley swaps.... :bang:

Jordan, Before you go to all that trouble, check this out.

I took mine in for a 4 wheel alignment after we put the lowering springs in and they called me up to say they couldn't align it. I was like ??? They said the drivers side rear wheel was all wobbly and about to fall off. We took the wheel off and found that the main nut on the axle bolt (the big one that screws onto the axle) had backed off about 1.5 turns!!! I guess a little too much tq and hp. We tightened it up, finished the aligment and I have been on my merry way since. Every time I jack the car up I check for play, and when I take the wheels off I make sure that the bolts are still tight. I haven't had a problem since.

If yours has been like this long, you bearing may be bad, like you thought, but I got lucky. May be worth checking before you go through all the trouble of warranty. Could be a simple fix, if the bearing isn't howling from being off kilter.

CHECK AXLE NUT!

the axle nut sets bearing in race there are two internal tapper bearing. if nut comes loose the wheel can feel like axle bearing is out. axle bearing failure on cobras is a very uncommon problem.

Thanks for the advice Ben and Wally. I had thought that might have been it and was looking to get a 36 mm socket to tighten it down. A thread on svtperformance said the thing is a one time use nut and needs to be torqued to 240 ft lbs! :bang:

Well, the end result is I removed the pulley, it was actually harder to get the stock one back on than to pull the KB pulley off for a change. I left the CAI on and was prepared to get into a hissy fit if they complained about the springs. My car will be done tomorrow and they did change out the bearing so I guess it was damaged beyond saving. When they changed the halfshafts a few weeks ago they probably didn't torque the axle nut right because it was twitchy from the word go. Oh, and they also fixed the SES light due to the EGR DFE sensor thingy so thats good. They wanted $262 to change the rear brake pads.... :bs: I declined politely.

Once I get all the parts back on and the new stuff installed, I'll post some good pics so you can see the drop from the springs. You really only notice the fronts though. :nice:
