Guys help me out here....

I took a sweet '95 GT (1 owner, low mileage, all stock) 5spd for a test drive the other day and it was SOOO SLOWWW!

Looked amazing though....opal frost(silver) w/mint all black leather interior!

I am comparing it to my '97 STS (daily driver) which is a pretty fast car but stock for stock isn't alot faster than a 95 GT 5spd.

A stock STS from '97, according to motor trend does 0-60 in 6.4 and 1/4 in 14.7 which should be about the same as a stock 95 GT 5spd.

I know how to drive stick awesome since all my cars have been manual trans aside from the STS but this thing was a ***kn slug!! My STS would destroy it!

Honestly it felt like i was driving a cavalier or something aside from the sweet sound coming from the tails.

Do the 94-95's really feel this slow stock or do you think something was wrong here?

It looked sooo sweet!

Nope, what you felt was pretty normal. Our cars are so bottled up, with 1000 dollars worth of modifications, they feel like a whole different car. They respond very well to small modifications, but in bone stock form, they aren't anything to be impressed with. A stock 95 coupe can run 14.8's all day on street tires. With a good driver, I've seen them go 14.2's.

the stock gears are real slow on these cars. the 5.0 is going to be a LOT easier and cheaper to mod NA as opposed to a 4.6.

thanks for the replies guys

well...i guess i was expecting a little to much out of the little stocker.

the last stang i drove was a 5.0 fox and man did it feel different than the 95.

now i'm not sure if i should just go with a 94-95 and do some mods or if i should just start with a 99+ since all i really want is a daily driver capable of 13.5's or so......not really looking to go faster just yet.

Between an SN95 5.0 and a SN95 99+ 4.6, I would take the 4.6 all day long. It's much easier (and cheaper) to get to a 13.5 second timeslip with a 4.6 than a 5.0.

last i checked it was pretty easy to get a '94 gt to run mid 13's for quite a bit less than the price of a new edge gt.

I agree, with my minor mods, most of which are there to get set up for my S-Trim, I can run 13.8's and 13.9's all day long. That was w/ the cobra intake, all exhaust and gears, but it does also help that my car only weighs 3060 lbs due to it being a GTS

It is not quite what you were talking about, but I bought a 1996 4.6, and to do the PI headswap right with long tubes, it would have cost over $3500. That is why I just bought a 1995 vert for $7000. I am going to sell the 1996 when the 1995 is on the road. Putting $3500 in the 5.0 will get me much more than it would for the 4.6.

Get a 99GT, get 4.10 Gears and Drag Radials, it will run 13.5 if you can drive.

For once, you actually didn't come in here like an ass to give your opinion. I respect that.

I am a 5.0 faithful, and just as big of one as the next guy, but we all need to realize something. First - a car's performance is not measured on how much you pay for it. That is the worst arguement in the world to say "Well, my 4,000 dollar 1995 GT will go faster with 10,000 more dollars than your 14,000 dollar 99+ GT." Get the hell out of here. Have you ever heard the expression "The BS stops when the green light pops." That's all it is. Mod for mod, a 99+ GT will smoke a 95 GT.

In the most recent issue of MM&FF, they did a H/C/I swap on a blown 4.6. The result: 518 horsepower and 475 lb/ft of torque. They even managed to squeeze 540 horsepower out of it, but they didn't give any other figures to go along with it, so I did not consider it. You find me a stock bottom end 5.0 making those type of numbers on 12 pounds of boost (via a supercharger), then we can talk. Otherwise, lets all face the facts, our beloved 5.0 is outdated and behind the times as far as technology goes. With the market opening up even more for the 2V 4.6, you will see the performance of these cars become even further apart.

94-95 we're bad years for Ford. J. Nasser was in charge and the goal of MFC was to keep the emissions as low as possible and mpg as high as possible in order to pad the CAFE nubers for their truck market. Thats the only excuse for GT's to make 10 hp less than a 93, for 2.73 gears in the rear, etc. Now... in the right environment the 94-95 shine. For instance... on the highway.. when I tip the throttle... I get from 65-120 in a hurry! LOL Most of the boys with the 4.10's would be hitting the redline and needing a fuel truck to keep up! That having been said.. I see a set of 3.73's, a CAI, cobra intake and a cat back set-up to be a great mod list for <$1000 that really will make the car wake up. Just an opinion.

I would have to agree with you since i dont have any opposing facts. But one thing is that the 5.0 is easier to work on yourself. Most guys, like myself, dont have the money to buy a new 4.6 and if i did i would not have the money to modify it.

Cant you stroke 5.0's and not 4.6's though? I've seen 5.0 modulars but i dont know what are your options past a 281. I do know with a 5.0 you can go 302,306,331,347 and probably some others with different combinations. I know you can achieve those numbers u said above with a stroker. You can even go with the 351 5.8 against the ____ 5.4. 351 goes up to a 408 i believe, maybe even higher. What does that 5.4 stroke up to? Can it even be stroked?

But all in all, you are right. But that should be expected fellaz. These new stangs have all the technology behind them. But, i dont care, i will take my 95 5.0, have the last 5.0 pushrod from the factory and be happy with it. I know i can slowly buy parts and build the engine up myself probably for cheaper than i could with a new stang.

One thing i do know is that there are not that many options out right now for the new stangs with the 4.6. I know there will be in the future but its not that way right now. I am making my mustang unique and there are a million and one combinations to go with on our 5.0s.

By the end of the day, we all have an opportunity to go fast. It just depends on how your bank account looks which will determine what path you take.

Sorry for the long post
