so i got the track heat upper and lower on the way as well as a 75 mm throttle body.

im thinking about picking up a set of twisted wedges and a tfs stage 2 cam.

will this work with a stock short block, and what RR's would i need to use?

would this be a good combo, and will it sustain 6500 rpms?

Ditch the stg 2 cam and use a custom or something from afm. Valve springs will need to be changed as well.

Something I saw in your original post

Well ... consider a thought or two about that 6500 rpm desire

The roller lifters we use these days are ............ HEAVY :Word:

It don't take too much to go to 6K or maybe 1 or 2 hundred more

I feel as you move beyond that ... things CAN start to go beyond the typical
street car application as the rpm's climb.

Stiffer springs, lighter vt stuff, ... etc etc etc

The commitment of money and reliability COULD cause you to to go

Just something I thought I'd throw out there

ah, i just went with the 6500 that the intake says.

6000-6200 would be just fine

also i do plan on gong with a 347 in the future i think as well as some boost

havent decided on blower or turbo yet but i love the idea of the boss 302 block.

the custom cam sounds like a good idea designed for a N/A combo as the car will be N/A for a long time, or at least a few years untill i beef up the rest of the car.

i do understand with the VT stuff, i just wanna get the most out of everything

I agree, everything looks swell, except for the camshaft and the valvetrain that needs to match the camshaft's needs.

A custom camshaft would be a great idea.

I went with the stage 2 cam.... it was cheap as it came with the heads/intake combo I had thrown on a 331. If my oil pump hadn't taken a dive on me. I would have some better times to post in my signature.

The idle of the stage 2 cam is nice... and it definitely climbs through the rpms.

331 TrickFlow engine - before tuning.

this is a much better plan than was your other "port my heads and get a tfs stage 1 so i can beat that camaro" plan.

you will be much happier when you get where this one will take you

and you shouldn't have much trouble with your old friend either!

i like the stage 2 cam, and it is hard to complain about the price ...

how about injectors and maf ... those 19#ers might not be able to keep up now ...

gurus?

well after doing alot more research i figure this would be a better route and lead to better gains, i also found a bunch of chartys graddy posted about different combos and decided to go with the twisted wedges instead.

i was under the assumtion that the cobras came with #24's for injectors?

About a limit of rpm and how the application makes a difference

We all know more serious applications usually will mean higher limits

But ... since most here are focused around a street application

We got mostly daily driver and weekend toy applications

Allow me to speak from a perspective of a Stock or OEM Stang
and
Since we got a lot of members who have NO or Little combo experience opcorn:

Lets consider the OEM Stang experience

It starts to peter out W A Y before 6K

To be a bit more specific

I dug up info on a couple of typical Stangs to show the starting point

A stock Fox GT Stang with t5 trans reached peak tq@3200 & hp@4200

Heck Fire ... A 94 bolt on Cobra with pulleys, OR pipe, and shortys could
only muster peak tq@4000 & hp@4700

So you see

The power band is really narrow on an unmodified 5.0 Stang

This is one of those perspective kind of things :Word:

If you build a combo that will pull to mid 5K or 6K .....

You've extended the power band by a substantial amount

You really don't have to rev to the moon with a Street Car application
to make a N O T I C E A B L E improvement

Also ... if you custom tailor the band with an emphasis NOT on peak

Well ... I guess that would be another time and thread

Anyway ... something to think about

found these at summit,

valves, 1.08/1.60
runner volume 206/96
flow cfm 305/235

intake and exhaust valves raised .5 inches over stock with a max lift of .780
and double springs

sounds pretty sweet to me and at 1140 sound like a steal for complete heads

another thing i just noticed on summit is that you can buy bare heads at half the price, wouldnt that be cheaper to assemble them yourself or possable reuse some of the parts from your old heads?

yeah ... i don't know why they price them like that ... i mean, who buys just one head?

unless one gets messed up somehow, but how often does that happen?

305 cfm is some SERIOUS flow. those things will support some major horsepower.

You are not looking at the Street “Twisted Wedge” heads. They are only 170cc runners and .600" lift and they are only $1378 a PAIR. They flow 251cfm intake, 193cfm exhaust @.600" lift. The "Street heat" Trick flows flow about the same and are $1316 a PAIR. Summit sells a complete Trick Flow kit for the street that has heads,Intake, cam, rockers, bolts, gaskets, timing chain etc for about $2500.

You might be looking at the cnc tw’s or R race head or? But it is different than the street heads that will work well on your 302. Thats why it's per head not a pair.

The heads you are talking about would be way too big and not work very good on a 302 but great on a 408!

This combo should work good for your 302....in the last 5 months you have changed directions with your plans a dozen times it seems like. It would be cheaper to buy parts that will work in the future...the problem is right now...believe me I have been right where you are. I have bought parts that worked for what I had at the time,….then when I went “bigger” I sold them and bought everything again. It gets expensive buying things twice!

yea i change my mind alot, lol. part of this is because i dont wanna do it twice.

im about 90% sure im going to go with a new boss 302 block and a 347

it seems to me that the afrs or twisted wedges work perfectly here between 302 and 347

the reason for the twisted wedges is that you can get good airflow without fly cutting the pistons. but will still have room for both the 347 and forced induction

going to use either a centrifugal supercharger and a turbo setup, still not sure in that department

the 408 was part of my original plan but i dont like the idea of needing all the extra stuff to do the swap. and finding a 4 bolt 351 block seems hard.

it seems that getting a 800 hp capable short block and doing a 408 swap run about the same money (4 grand) so im going with the smaller 302 based engine so if i do end up going nuts i wont need to worry about it

Personally, I would go with a DART block for a 3.4" or greater stroke.

Good Luck.
