the cute little motor on the dash lites

im really enjoying my new mustang, and the little motor on the dash lites is just so cute!
does the computer read out the codes like on the chevys or do i need to borrow 1 of the hand held tuner things.
is it a obd 2 and where is the plug located?
and where can i find a web page for the codes?

Bummer. Check Engine light huh? Well you have two routes here donny, you will need to determine cost to diagnose and potential costs associated with a handheld purchase versus dealer.

Unless you have made some moderate to aggressive engine modifications, why are you not returning this to a Ford service center for analysis if, indeed the check engine light is on?

If you take the vehicle in and they read the codes from the OBD-II/PCM/EEC-V and are able to determine they are associated with a covered warranty fix, the diagnoses in included.

As for the Code reader, yes, SCT/X-Cal2 and Predator from Diablo have code reading capabilities, both maintain fairly extensive databases for the codes and support. I prefer SCT.

yes i did a ford shorties and flowmaster axlebacks, and a mezeire.

It should be mandatory that codes should be readable without a scanner. My 2000 Dakota I traded for my GT had self-code readout. If I the Check Engine Lite were to come On, all I had to do was push and hold the tripmeter button while turning the ignition key on/off 3 times in a row. Then release the button and it would display an, eg. PO326, code in the trip odometer window. Although I believe the 05 GT has a light for a loose gas cap, other vehicles don't. It's a waste of cash paying a dealership $50 or so to scan read a code just to find some gas jockey or even yourself didn't tighten the gas cap and created a code.

If the gas cap was the culprit you won't see the "Check Engine" light go out immediately. It'll take some time before you see a change.

this is true, i remember a thead a while ago that this was the case. they were because it was so simple and it had been like 3 or 4 days since they filled up.
