The dreaded "Cricket Suspension" has plauged my 02' GT......(Covered under warranty?)

It appears to only be in the rear....but everytime I got over any sort of bump now I get that damn cricket squeak.

It's only developed in the last week or so......because I can say for sure that this time last week it was not doing it.

I've got 33K miles on the stang.....will the warranty cover having this fixed?

It won't be a problem recreating the noise for the techs......it happens every freakin' time I hit a bump in the road.

Also....if they do replace or fix the problem.......is it going to come back in another 30K miles or so???

Any insight is appreciated.

My exhuast is so loud I wouldn't even hear squeaks if they were there. I would go to ford if i were you...they may fix it under warranty.

I had a similar problem on one of my cars. It ended up being a defective strut which was't bolted on tightly.

My 02 does the exact same thing - curious to hear of a solution. I haven't taken it to the dealership for fixing as it is a minor annoyance, but soon will be taking it in if I can't figure it out. I would imagine it is just something loose...I hope.

And ya know, if I had a lift, I could check these things much more easily. I know, I'm dreaming. But one day, I swear, I will have a 2 story garage with a lift.

if you've done suspension work of any kind you may get a hard time about it.
i had to deal with this once in my last 98gt. it ended up being the loop that the brake cable is routed through after it leaves the body of the car behind the drivers side door. the brake cable was rubbing agaist the loop & makeing the most horrible sqeaking ever. you may wanna check there, it's a easy check & may solve it, ya never know

I have rear suspension squeeks too. I'm not that bothered by it, and it's not like Ford would fix it for me anyway. The only original suspension component I have left are my A-arms.

Mine has the cricket too, the dealer says everytime it needs lube.. but haven't quite pinpointed the problem, and everytime, it starts again..

My car does it when I turn the steering wheel either way. Annoying as crap, but I cant find the problem and the dealership said the lowered suspension and aftermkt struts/shocks, bump steer, camber plates voided the suspension part of the warranty. The alignment shop said a good lube would help but coudnt find any problems. They did lube it and it helped, but the squeaks came back after a good downpour.

The dealerships ever say WHAT they lubed up exactly? The bushings?

Same thing here and the dealer looked at it and said it was a loose E Brake Bracket. Took em a little while to track it down even though we knew it was soming from the driver's side rear of the car. We all thought it was a squeeky suspension component when i took it in and got the car to make the noise by pushing down on the trunk floor a couple times.

Mine has been doing the same thing. I know I'll never convince Ford that it was doing it before I swapped in FRPP UCA's and MM LCA's, but it was. That's what prompted me to do the swap.

I was out there shaking the rear of the car today, and I found that if I reach through the wheels and grab the rear caliper with both hands, and push back and forth, it makes the noise that I think I'm hearing. And this noise is a different pitch with the ebrake on vs. off. Can any of you guys tell me exactly which ebrake bolt was loose?

It is probably the loop/bracket that the E-brake cable runs through on the rear-end of the car it get dry and squeaks when it is vibrated. You just put a little grease on it and the noise should go away. But, it will probably return eventually, and you will have to grease it again. I just don't pay mine any attention.

not sure, i dropped it off and picked it up since it was under warranty and the paperwork doesnt go into any detail. But I've been squeek free foro two weeks now.

I just got my car back today for this dreaded noise. Its completely gone now. This is from my service report what they said-

Found noise to rear body near lower control arm attaching points and from undertorqued exhaust hangar brackets, retorqued... removed back seats and rear interior panel, removed sound deadening material, used stethescope to pinpoint noise to borken spot welds. drilled out 3 spots welds and installed rivets. Still noise by rear upper control arm, drilled 2 spot welds near control arm installed 2 5/16 bolts w/locking nuts.

Anyways I'm happy.

Interesting.

A squeak started to develop around 32-33k for me as well.

Besides the bushings, I'm think a set of full length subframes would help ...

I remember with my 99 it alleviated some of the problems I had after I installed the sub frames which connect both halfs of the car.

Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only one!

Yup, ever since I hit 20k I have had this "click", or like a snap happen. Just driving down the road happy as can be, hit a slight bump, then "click". Click, click... then back to driving happy down the road for a few hundred feet.

Definitely would like to find out where it is coming from. - Mega
