The Journey To Find A Fox. Found A Cobra Instead.

Making a wishlist for the items I’m needing. Gonna get new Motorcraft plug wires, cap and rotor with a boot. Can not stand the red MSD stuff. It has the SVE silicon hoses and aluminum radiator which I don’t like either but it runs cool, at least in the cold. Needs an air deflector underneath. Also deciding how to tackle the headlights. They are original and I want to polish them up a bit. Anyone ever done these headlights? I’ve only done my Tundras headlights, which are super clear plastic. Next week it’s not supposed to rain and I have leave scheduled so it’s gonna get washed, clayed and polished. I’ll post pics of the progress on all that.

I also found a power seat track on eBay, so I’ll be installing that. It came with it and that’s how I want it.

It still has the R12 in it. I have a buddy who has the equipment for hvac, can you just evacuate the r12 and replace with r134 or does everything need to be changed? It blows coldish, but it’s hard to tell when it’s cold out.

The r134a molecule is smaller, so you really need to disassemble, flush, change o rings and then evacuate and recharge.

Is it just low on r12? I'd just top it off. R12 is all over eBay. I have a license to buy but never once been asked. You just fill out the "waiver" saying you are buying for a tech and they mail it.

As for headlights..a few are readily available on eBay NOS. mainly the parking/turn lights

I would think it was just low on r12. I have seen it on eBay. What equipment is needed to just top it off?

I’ve seen the headlights on eBay, I may just buy them slowly over time to have them. I do like NOS parts. But my lights are just a little discolored.

Well I was going to try out my new foam cannon and wash it so I can start paint correction but of course I can’t get my pressure washer to start, so I took it out for a ride instead since it wasn’t raining finally. I can’t believe how hard these cars pull, I am comparing against my 66 though. I already want another fox, maybe a notch is in my future!

Made my first order through LMR. Some new ford racing wires and Motorcraft cap and rotor. I was going to go with Motorcraft wires, and I still will buy a set so I can eventually go stock but the black will look good in there.

So I spent a few hours yesterday trying some paint correction. My paint is original and in decent shape but is very swirled/lightly scratched in certain areas. Tried a couple All in ones (compound/polishes in one step) with no luck. I tried a product called HDspeed and Meguiars Ulitimate Compund which are both highly recommended all in ones. I’ve used both of these on my Tundra with great results but I am having no luck on the Cobra. Either this paint is really hard or I’m doing something wrong. I may have to go to a two step polish, which I didn’t want to do because the chances of damaging the paint or clear coat with that increases. I may take it to a detailer or hire a mobile detailer to tackle this job. I enjoy detailing, but I know my limits on what I know and I really don’t want to screw my paint up.

I used the 3m kit on my headlights (off the car, I had installed a set of repro's with clear corners, do NOT buy repros).
They have never been in the weather but the 3m sanding kit took all the gold tint out. I did one at a time and it was very evident next to each other.

Those door handles are tacky, people with real cobra's don't need to broadcast it on the door handles. Sometimes less is more...

Meh... The door handles would be way down my list of things I cared about.

Only us Mustang Snobs would ever know the difference.

Down the road when I came across a set for cheap, I'd snag em.

Edit: I'm going to try and ping @LaserSVT about your paint. He doesn't like to come out of the Squeaky too often but I bet he's ridden the paint horse more times than he cares to recall.
