Yeah I just bondoed over them. 2 coats. It'll be fine. Won't be the first time I've done it. My Dad did body work for 16 years before he bought the yard 20 years ago, and he said "goop it up and go home" then he shut the lights off in the office, locked the door and went home. LOL!!! He's a great body man and has really made some cars of mine nice and straight, so I don't question him. I can't say my body work is nearly as good, but it's good enough for this section that is covered by a spoiler.

I welded the holes on my hatch. I have seen bondoed holes hold up for quite some time but I just can't do that myself. lol There wasn't too much warpage on my hatch either, I skimmed my hatch anyway. Its a lil wavy but you can barely tell.

I wanted to, but my Dad talked me out of it. Luckly the rest of my hatch is straight. My other two hatches were a tad wavy and had MINOR rust. This hatch is rust free. The caulk seam isn't even spreading. But the frame rails were completely rotted....go figure!!

I did a pretty good job. I got a new paint gun so I was off my game a little bit. Got a couple runs I'm not to happy about but they are low on the car. I'll block them out, but at least they aren't in front of my face on the higher spots on the car. Next step is to wet sand the whole car with 1500 on my new Hook-It DA set up. Then I'm gonna hit it with 3000 on the DA and rub it out.

Thanks bro....I think this might give me some motive to finish it. Wanna get the outside done, get the quarter windows in after I refinish them and get it home to finish the interior. Hack Job was done in May of 07, but I also started on it 5 months earlier. So I guess 5 or 6 months isn't bad for this project.

You do some damn fine work, man.

Do you spray in that garage we're looking at, or do you have a paintbooth? I do see some red on the floor. Just curious what you do for ventilation, overspray, etc.

Thank you. I spray right in that room. The car was about 6 feet forward so I could get behind it, I just need some more room in the shop today so I pushed it back.

I paint there, sweep and wet the floor down. I have a huge exhaust fan in the roof of the building that really sucks the fumes out. You can see the fumes just pulling up and out. The lighting is okay, I could use more lights so I could see what I'm doing on the passenger side. I just know where to spray I guess even though I can't see. I get some dust, but everything I do gets wetsanded, rubbed and detailed so in the end the product is great. I also have radiant heat above so the car gets pretty hot when I kick the heat on.

Would you ever do black? I've met a couple guys who paint in their garage, and what I usually hear is that they won't do black because it shows imperfections much more. Seems like they think black should only be done in a paint booth. Just curious what you think. Someday I may attempt to paint my own car... Black, of course.

I've done black quite a few times. These two cars were painted in the same spot.

Are you self-taught painting, or have you worked in a body shop before?

Anyways as far as painting goes....my Dad worked in a body shop for 16 years before he bought the yard. As a kid (3-4 years old) I was always in the garage with him. I got my first car, a second, then my third (which was the first Mustang of mine). We sent the first 2 cars out for paint. The Mustang.....my Dad wanted to try it. He had never painted before either, he was a body man, frame straightener, welder fabber ect.... So basically, we are both self taught. I watched him paint every car that we would fix until 2005. That's when I just said, I'll try it. It was on a black 97 Cobra and it turned out good. Ever since then, I've been painting everything.

IMO...you can't learn how to paint from a book or from school. You just have to do it. Read the directions on the can and spray. Sure you can get book smarts from a book or school, but seeing it being done and doing it is the best way. It has to start somewhere.

Definately get the wedding and house stuff done first. I started this car in December, got engaged in March and ever since it's been slow motion. Lots of planning to do and honestly, we don't have much done. I'd rather be working on my house than this car or ANY car for that matter. Houses are awesome. Wanna redo my kitchen. Floor, cabinets, counters oven, dishwasher everything.

Oh yea, I feel the pain. When we got engaged back in July, my job sent me about 2.5 hours away for work on a 5 month project. We had to schedule a lot of the wedding planning stuff on the weekends so I could be in town. Finally after I moved back home, we decided to build a house instead of rent, so that's been my life for the last 10 months. Building a house, getting married, and traveling a lot for work. Needless to say, the Mustang hasn't seen a lot of attention.

That's a long way to travel once a week. So you got all of it out of the way...good...I thought you still had to do that. Anyways...I love Mustangs and I would have a hard time not being able to do what I want to do in the summer with them. But I'm gonna have to learn that the car is not in the top 2 priority list anymore. Fiance, house, dog, car.

Thanks. Gonna let her dry up a little more over night. Gonna start wetsanding in the morning and tomorrow evening. Still have to do 90% of the interior too...
