Hey guys,

Just wanted to post a quick note about my new ride...

When I was Sixteen, back in 1987 I went for a ride with my cousin in her 1986 Mustang GT, White with scarlet red interior. She was a teacher and my grandmother was in the passenger seat. I was in the back seat just soaking it all in.

I had lived in Germany for the past few years and had never been in nor seen Mustangs often. After that ride I fell in love with Mustangs and never looked back. Because of that car basically I am who I am and StangNet is what it is because of that one car!

Well I got me a 1986 GT, white with scarlet interior, and to boot..... ITS THAT SAME CAR I rode in back in 1987. My cousin which was my Dad's first cousin, sold it to her son, who was my 3rd cousin. We have been long time friends and he called me up and asked if I wanted to buy it!

Well here she is... my first 'Stang, literally. She is unmolested and baby driven. She still has the original struts and shocks on it along with the original fog light covers. Mind you she needs lots of love, but we all know she is sure to get it now.

Thought I would share!

Mike

That is awesome! You are so lucky. I remember my first ride in a fox, was in the back seat of an 88 GT.

Congrats on getting the car. I hope you keep us posted on the progress.

Looks to be in great shape. Thats a great story, and very cool that you were given a chance to own the actual car that started your passion. There was a four eye abandoned on our farm in Texas that my dad and I were going to restore when I was 15. We ended up moving to Iowa first, but I really want to go see if it is still there. I would love to restore it with him now that I have the means.

VERY COOL!
CONGRATS!!

I also have my my very first Mustang.
After my best friend graduated and got a job, he knew that he should get a new (more reliable) car. Even though he was also a GM freak, like I was, the '86 Mustang seemed better than the '86 Firebird (that's a whole other topic ).

I had always owned GM. My brother-in-law even worked for GM. To show you how much of a GM fan I was, after working for a few years, I had decided to get a new Vette - it was a "done deal" - financing all set, etc. Well, one one of my afternoon runs during lunch at work, I passed by a site where they were putting up new townhouse condos. So, I had to check them out. And, I found out/realized that I could buy a house by using my "Vette" money as a down payment. Being more practical-minded, I canceled my Vette purchase, and did a lot of 'xplaining to people (friends, family, bank, etc).

Of course, I stayed a GM person. When my best friend got sick of the Stang always being at the dealers (all work done by the dealer only - even oil change, air filter, etc), he decided to get another car. As soon as he told me, I told him that I would pay him 25% over the highest bid/price he could find. Regardless of the fact that the '86 has the ugly, hard to read orange dash lights, and a muffler that has a horrible drone that can make people go deaf.

BTW: Today, my car count is 4 GMs, and one Ford. The Tbird has gone to that great salvage yard in the sky. However, after driving a Fusion as a rental, I now tell people that are looking to buy a new car to "Get a Fusion - period"!

My Stang is still my good weather DD. In fact, I drove it on Thursday & Friday because we had a break in our ****** winter weather. I even have a full set of 4 Blizzaks for the Stang for these occasional winter drives.

Great story! I remember the 1st mustang that changed my life forever and I know where it is...my parents garage. 1982 red T-top GT with TRX and recaro option, sadly it has been sitting on blocks for years and needs a bad restoration. My dad is hoping to one day do it or my brother will be taking the project on.

Thanks for the comments guys... It just feels great cruising in a 4-eye. Radio does not work and I don't even care.

I'm not sure when I will start the rebuild/restore process on this one, but I plan to keep it pretty much stock to the 'naked' eye and tweak where I can.

Awesome.

I'm another that owns the first Mustang I ever rode in, and it's also my first Mustang to own.

My 68 Coupe. My brother bought it back in the mid 90's and drove it to college every day. It was red, with a 200 and a 3 speed, and under dash air. It looks like crap now, but it's a lot funner to drive with the mods in my sig.
