The project starts again

Ok guys let's try to stop the run away train here. Let's slow down for a second. We are throwing some pretty high dollar parts around. TKO's and big blocks all cost big money. 68Eleclone, even if you completely disregard everything I say, please hear this. Figure out your budget, what you can and can't do, and other objectives of the build. If you want a big-block, IFS'ed classic Mustang it will cost you dearly in the financial department. Do you have tens of thousands to put in a car when you're going to college? If you don't then look at cheaper alternatives.

I mean you say you want a tame idle but also ask about rpms of the 347. More often than not to get rpm's you need an aggresive cam which usually means a not so tame idle. You need to sit down and plan your build before you jump head long into it.

Now I want you to read this next paragraph very carefully and realize I'm not attacking you in anyway. Have you ever driven a fast car? I mean one that you can really get into trouble with. A big block plus a stick shift can and WILL give you all that you can handle. The first few times I stopmed on my modded 5.0 it scared me. A big block in a 3000 lb car will get a teenager like you and me in trouble. We will test the limits until something breaks. All I'm saying is that a 347 with a 5-speed will probably be enough to scare the hell out of you.

Before you ever turn a wrench you need to realized the limitations of your budget and the implications that places on the parts you select. Before I built my project 67 I wanted a 347 with a T56, but after I counted my beans I had enough for a nicely built 302 and a C4. There is nothing more depressing than seeing your half finished project because you spent 10 g's on your drivetrain but can't afford to put a decent suspension under it.

I'm not saying this to cut you down, I was EXACTLY like you. Look up the thread AFR engine combo. I tried to argue with everyone here to make things work my way. Guys our age usually can't afford to build the kick ass cars the little bit older guys can so you need to be realistic and willing to change your course of action. In this hobby you can't will things to work just because you got a good deal and are a risk taker. You have to willing to adapt or pony up the cash. Once again no flame intended. I just want you to be realistic so we can welcome another Stanger into the fold.

Thank you for your response.

I am not disregarding everything you say. In fact you got me deeply thinking.

The first 300+ HP car I ever drove while having my license was my uncles 96 Z28. It had a supercharger and a automatic, and to tell you the truth, it scared the living hell out of me.

I have been saving up for a IFS for my car since I got it in 04. I now have the money saved up for the whole setup plus the coilover shocks and springs, and subframe connectors (outside weld-in sections plus bolt in or weld-in center section). My dad has a lot of experience with welding and bodywork, and he knows how to build a race car or two. He will be helping me with the IFS.

For the T-5, I got it from a junkyard out of a 95 GT for 300 bucks, clutch disc and pressure plate included. I have the T-5 crossmember from California mustang here in my garage, and all i need is my hydraulic clutch conversion kit.

Yes, I am on a very limited budget, but luckily for me, college wasnt gonna cost me as much as i expected. ( I was expecting WAY more, but thankfully for me, Im going to a community college) so i just saved a little more money. I havent worked on the car for over a year, because i didnt have the money or the time. Now, i graduated from High School, have had a job for a while, and now i have the time and money.

This car is my dream car, and I am grateful that I have it ( my first goal was to turn it into a eleanor clone, with a bored and stroked 302, because I want a V8 that can turn High RPM's. But I realized that it costs too much, plus I want a unique design, something that reflects me and my hard work, so im just making it look stock, with a few body mods here and there).

I really do thank you guys for the responses. Although I am still gonna get the IFS, I will post pics of the install and the finished product itself. Thanks guys.
