Suppose I install an intercooled Mongoose kit/KB 1.7/2.1 at a modest 350-380whp with a tune from MPH, and I drive it daily on a otherwise stock 2V block. Will engine/drivetrain reliability diminish any more than if I were to daily drive it with minor bolt ons?

Now, I already know the answer to this question but I'm asking you because a skeptical friend of mine thinks that a blown Stang will be unreliable, even at those power levels.

Blowers WILL put more stress on the engine, especially roots type blowers that build boost FAST. However, if your engine has good compression, it will most likely be fine with 10-11lbs. As you know, many people here on the boards such as myself, Cody, Benny, and others are making more than 400 +whp with no problems at all on stock internals. The tune is most important. I have had zero problems with my car (knock on wood) in the past 2 years, boosting 11 pounds for a year and then bumping it to 14. Bottom line is, if the car runs good now and has good compression, it will be able to handle boost (assuming the tune is right on and conservative). Hope this is the answer you wanted...

Actually, you could buy the cheapo non intercooled 6 psi kit and save some money (and front end weight). Mine dynos at 342rwhp, 320 rwtq, and gets 22-23 mpg on the interstate. It has a Cobra IRS in it with a 3.27 gear and a 5 speed.
And like they said, it's the tune that counts.
these guys were pretty good to me,

I don't have a K/B but Tims mail tune was near dead on (BTW you do know that you can only get a K/B from MPH if they install and tune it there right?)

The Vortech and Paxton kits are the only way to get a mongoose kit without Tim dyno tuning it in person.

Any way if he dyno tunes it you should be more than safe as long as you don't downshift at 115 mph to 1st gear

When you say "Tims" are you talking about JMSchip?, I bought my KB from them and KB butchered the chip, JMS stood by the product so I have only good things to say about JMSchip. KB on the other hand..good product, crappy customer service.
I'm pretty sure that the surfer-dude kid that answers the phone at KB has to be dating the boss's daughter in order to keep his job.

It's fine. I as scared about it too when I did my Cobra. I have had 4 trouble free years, and I have put 10,000 miles on my Cobra since it's been supercharged. 10,000 miles of hard acceleration, track time etc... It still runs good. I'd take it on a road trip.

The only problem I had was a shredded belt after 200 miles which was within a couple weeks. I think it was a defective Gates belt that Vortec provided. I replaced it with a Goodyear belt and it's been on there for the other 9,800+ miles over the 4 years.

How about if I were to install a Mongoose kit/Vortech kit myself and have it tuned at MPH?
Or if Tim's mail tune is good enough I guess I can settle with that..

I would say get it on a dyno for a custom tune even if it make no different power it's about making sure it's safe.

That said I think you have two main factors in keeping a supercharged car alive first is a good tune, second is not beating on it 24/7. Not saying don't get on it but seriously how often do you need to push a 350-400RWHP car in normal driving? My car makes 468RWHP but in my daily commute I rarely get into the boost.

The proper steps for the Vortech Mongoose Kit.

1. Order kit and tell MPH your mods when ordering.

2. Install the kit and mail order tune.

3. Take car to dyno to check A/F (Stay out of boost until you do this).

4. Give MPH the dyno results.

5. MPH will adjust the tune if necessary.

6. Enjoy the new powa!!!
