Thinking about electric water pump

well got the timing cover off and the old cam out (thanks for everyones help in that matter)..I debating replacing my water pump as part of preventative maintanance..then I got on the idea of an electric pump...supposedly merziere is making ones for the street that that very reliable now...so thats got me thinking...Anyone have any opinions on the matter?

You're right - I should have explained more.

I don't know of anyone daily driving an electric water pump on their street car. In that scenario it is hard to deny the price and reliability of the good ole' belt driven water pump. So that would be my vote... I think you would be better served by a $100 pump.

Is the electric waterpump longevity a myth? I dunno. I haven't seen anyone that has run one for a long time on the street. Seems like that money would be better spent elsewhere on other mods for your average guy.

go-stang: I am with ya on the preventative maintenance - for sure swap it out if you have the cash lying around!
 
I have the Meziere unit on my car. It has only been on for about 4 months of daily driving, and now it is down for the count, so it won't see any more street time till I get a new shortblock done.
It is a really nice piece. I put a Fluidyne in at the same time, and it could be hot as hell out, and the stock temp gauge would be rock solid on the o of normal no matter how hard I was driving it.
It is pretty spendy though. I got mine from summit for a little over $400. I was just looking to squeeze every little bit of power to the tires, so that is why I got one.
On the summit website they list a life expectancy of about 10,000 hours. That is like 416 days of solid operation.

so if i average 15,000 miles per year with an estimated average of maybe 25 miles per hour (i have mostly city miles), that would be about 15,000 / 25, or 600 hours of use per year. add in another 200 hours for sitting in traffic and at stop lights and that makes about 800 hours per year.

at that rate, it should last about 10,000 / 800, or 12.5 years or so.

even it cut out 2.5 years "early", it would still last 10 years.

hmmmmmm ..................
 
I think my electric WP bubble has bursted...I didn't really have any cooling issues before and I can't seem to justify spending $400-$500 on a WP. Yes I could afford it...but I think its kinda a waste of money. But I think I will get the new stewart warner.
 
I run the SW pump and a Fluydine for trouble free H O T Texas summers :nice:

I feel the rad is more of the reason for that ;)
but
when I wanted to replace the pump ...

The SW was cheaper than OEM :D

Just get a FlowKooler or a Stewart. Which ever you get, the biggest problem with our cars seems to be getting too hot at or near idle. These two, the FlowKooler for sure, cools more efficently in the lower RPM's where we need it.
 
Get one! I love my Meziere pump. No problems whatsoever. I've driven my car around town. I don't run a thermostat, I have two reducers one of the fall and one for the summer. Engine temps never get over 160 degrees. Cool down takes 5mins back down close to ambient. Only way to roll!!!
 
That's only on a built 302 that's putting out at least 330rwhp with a HP peak near 6000rpm. The gain is more like 3-4rwhp on a stock 302 that has peak HP nearer to 4500rpm. You'll get similar results with an underdrive crank pulley at 1/10 of the cost.

It shouldn't matter how much hp your making it still takes the same amount of hp to turn the water pump. The gains from less parisitic loss increase the more rpm's you turn. So during normal street driving you probably won't notice any difference in power but at your shift point the gain could be 10 to 15 hp less if you have underdrives already though.

I didn't know that the electric water pumps would fit 94-95's. Does the electric with the idler pulley so you can keep all the stock acc. fit? Its only listed as fitting 96-93's

As far as I know Meziere is the only company that makes them for the 94-95 cars.
You can either get them with the idler pulley on there to keep the stock serpentine setup, or for a little less money you can get one that doesn't have the idler pulley.
