See sig for info on the car. Anyways, I got the stang back in the garage for winter time and it's time to start working on her again. With what little money I have, I'm thinking of going with 1.7 RR's and I'm wondering about PtV clearance issues. I have a B 303 cam installed straight up, and GT-40 heads. I am just curious if they will clear? Also what other things can I do to give me that extra oomph to plant me back in the seat? It's got the stock TB, MAF and injectors. Thinking of going with a 74 MM MAF, 24 lb injectors, and a 73? MM TB. It's been quite a while since I've read up on this stuff so feel free to correct me on this stuff :P

Thanks.

Chances are, the B303 would clear. It'd only be .510 lift with 1.7 rockers instead of .480 with the 1.6 ratio. You'd still want to check clearance just to be on the safe side, but I'm pretty sure you can get away with around .512 before you really need to worry about piston to valve clearance on a stock shortblock. Pick up a 65mm throttle body, you honestly don't need any bigger than that. A 302 really can't flow enough air to surpass the CFM that the 65 is capable of, and you can usually find them for cheaper. The 24 lb injectors will work just fine with that combo, but make sure to get a decent MAF. Pro-M or OEM Ford with a tune is the ideal way to go.

remember that lift is not the important factor in determining piston to valve clearance, it is about what degrees your valves are opening at and your duration. Your 1.7 rockers will make little difference in piston to valve clearance, but as always, you should check it as these guys have said.

I've used that combo and it should clear, but always check the factory deck height vary a lot from +.010 to -.014.

The headers are holding you back more then anything, I'd start there then I agree with the others....

Alright, thanks guys. I know the headers are really holding me back, and I'm really sick and tired of listening to them leak..lol. I'd like to try and finish it up this winter. I got the bigger stuff out of the way last winter; heads, cam upper and lower intake, 3.73's, all that fun stuff. Could have finished it up then, but my budget wouldn't allow me. Anyways, thanks again, I'll definitely get 'em checked for clearance before I do anything.

I had that same combo gt-40 heads, 1.7 rr but i had a e-cam. I had no problems, but as a saftey measure i would check piston to valve clearance. I know you probably dont want to take the heads off but if you are not sure its better than wiping out pistons and valves. good luck.

peak lift is NOT the deciding factor for ptv clearance. duration and lobe seperation are. and yes they will clear. i have pretty much that combo (minus the B cam and heads) and it's working fine. might need to do some valve cover clearance checks though, i had to change mine out.
