No matter what i do i cant get air out of the brake lines, the rear ones really. i bled the front and rear 3 times, the front has no air, but the rear keeps on getting lots of air in it. I have to keep the pedal to the floor to keep the car stopped. What else could this be????
hmm....maybe there is a hole in one of your lines and it squeezes out fluid and when you take your foot off the brake it lets fluid out....or your wheel cylinders are gone
You need to check for leaks first. Is your car rusty underneath at all? Look at the back of your rear brakes and see if there is signs of any fluid. Can you bleed the air out and they work for while. Are you getting air at certain wheels? Actually how and when did this problem start? Air doesnt just appear in brake lines for no reason.
and whatever you do, dont drive it. if your mighty AOD is almost overpowering the brakes that is not cool.
how are you bleeding the brakes? mitivac, etc. if you are doing the 'have a buddy push the pedal' method, you could do that for weeks and still have air in there.
and in what order are you bleeding?
if you have air entering the system, it should be at all four brakes.
wheel cylinders are easy. good time to do shoes and turn drums.
be sure it is all perfect before you drive. brakes are the number one thing not to mess around with. borrow money if you have to.
Had the same problem a while back. If you arent leaking any fluid (fluid level in the master cylinder is staying the same) and there isnt any fluid underneath the car you probably have a bad master cylinder. Usually when you can suck in air through a line fluid will also go out so you would more than likely see a puddle of brake fluid under the car. But as they said above, check everything!! not something to mess with. My camaro did that and at red lights I had to shift into neutral to keep it from rolling into the intersection. Luckily Imade it to a friends house.
