Im looking at an e1200 jl amp for $150 off ebay for my 10" memphis. I always thought JL was quailty but just looking for a few opinions. It is rated at 120 x 1 @4 ohms and 200 x1 @ 2 ohms. That is perfect since my sub is 200rms

thanks.

Hifonics used to make great amps years ago. They made the first 1/4 ohm stable amp.

.

very true :nice: just like Lanzar amps, they were good, but were baught out by the low end Asian elec. companies.

were's ISKWi. he used to sell them or was a dist. reciently... i think he said ORion amps ?? or something was good low price amps.

i always trust pioneer, Phoenix Gold, and my fav US amps.

I visited the Orion, Fosgate and Phoenix gold  factories back in the early 90's in Arizona. I had an Orion 4 channel amp in a 96 Accord years ago. The amp was awsome, never had any problems with it. Orion Subs were awful. I blew the sub 3 times.

i used to have coustic subs blew about 6 of those untill the shop got sick of me blowing subs on warranty and they gave me JL's back in about 1998. then i baught these Pioneer premier subs in 2000 and have been beating the piss outa them and i cant blow up the amps or the subs, i used to blow things up all the time,

Older is wiser.....

yeah back in the day it seemed they were all quality made in america, but leave it to american capotilasts to ruin a good thing...

I agree. I have a Targa 4X100 Watt amp that I have been running a pair of 5x7s and a pair of 6 1/2" Bazooka Bass tubes in a Ford Ranger since 1993. That thing is bullet proof. I've been beating the hell out of that amp for over 12 years.

ok,let me get everybody ready to throw some stones.I dont care for JL amps, they have a clean a look, but they cut cost on circuitry.I have seen many of them go out,not from abuse, but just being being pushed hard and they dont last.Orion amps have now become "mainstream",just like Hifonics,Lanzar etc.,its a good quality, but not like back Orion had the red 225 HCCX or whatever it was that was 2 feet long and 50 watts per channel, but at 1/2 ohm it was like 800 watts.Since Orion was bought by DEI,they are now made overseas, just like most of the major brands. There are only 3 or 4 factory's that produce audio equiptment,i've been to 1 of the bigger ones,Namsung, that makes for a lot of bigger names.

If I doing a system for somebody that wants a clean sound but not a SQ or Db system i use smaller brands,X-File,Performance Technique,Tornado etc..They dont have a name, but some of the product I have used has lasted a VERY long time.Orion is not cheap, and not expensive.

I always get disagreements over intenet pricing.I sell audio to friends and aquaintences, and I always get"I saw it for less on the net".Im sure you did,but 95% of companies will not warranty any merchandise sold over the internet.

JL amps are no good, but some people like em  if it was from a friend i would say you should check it out, but that cheap on ebay :notnice:

I've been pounding my JL amps for a few years now with no problems... I agree don't buy from ebay...if it breaks you won't get it fixed. I've also used Fosgate amps with great results...not the newer stuff, i'm talking early 90's power series amps. I wish i still had them :( And soundstream used to be really good..I haven't looked at car audio in awhile since my current system has held up so well.

eventually we all figure it out then when we get new cars were always confused whats hot NOW instead of what was hot when i was into this stuff. Thats why guys like ISKW>> are so vaulable in these forums :nice:

jl amps no good? WTF????????? overpriced for sure but def. a great amp...for a great quality budget amp (if your sub is goin in a sealed box) look at the older JBL bp series...such as a bp 300.1, as for hifonics i know many people who bought theirs within the past 2 years and not a problem yet

stay far far away from sony, pioneer, kenwood etc. they're great for headunits but thats pretty much it

and as for buying audio equip on ebay between me and my roomate we've purchased 2 pioneer 9300s, an avx 7300dvd, a concept amp, a 15'' digital designs sub, an older kenwood touchscreen and not a single problem yet. hmmmm
