Threebond 1104 better than Permatex?

I was talking to a buddy today after a long annoying ordeal with my Bronco's timing cover leaking coolant and fixing it today. He expressed his hatred for Permatex as he only uses a sealant called Yamabond (he's a Porsche mechanic at an independent shop). I figured out it's just "Threebond 1104" and is manufactured by 3M. "Yamabond" was discontinued. It's a semi drying liquid gasket goo, super tacky and supposedly crazy awesome. Has anyone heard of it here or use it? It seems to be big with two stroke engine guys since it's what the Japanese motor dealers use/supply. I was considering it for the next time I have a coolant leak at a gasket.

Never heard of it. But the QC guy at my shop ran eastside cycle for many years; he will know.

What do you plan on using it on? Still messing with the RC cars? I will not use rtv/permatex/etc unless I cannot find a gasket for something. So many use it in conjunction w/ gaskets, which IMO, is a waste of time.

I've attempted to run a water pump and a few time tried t-stat housings with a gasket and no rtv and it never works so I just use it on everything that can leak. I think with our systems, after 100k miles, the aluminum is so badly pitted and uneven from caked on gasket material and other corrosive stuff that it just doesn't mate well enough with a dry gasket anymore.

BTW, I haven't done much with the RC racing with the new house taking up all my time recently  BUT there's a skate park near my house so I'll probably setup the 4wd buggy for some bashing out there.

John, which Permatex do you usually use for this situation? I've had decent luck with their dedicated water pump and t-stat housing gasket maker (if you need something available locally for an install today).

As an aside, WTF just happened to my computer? A little file download box just flew across my screen and the little progress dashes filled up and it went away. It took one second or less. CPU usage went to over 50% for about 10 seconds afterwards.
Did I just get hit with some interweb puke (I have nothing but 3 Stangnet pages open and was one sentence into typing this reply when it happened)? Sorry for spamming your thread but you two are both good with puters. As another aside, I stopped by Lil Anthony's last night - lame turnout.

As you were............... :OT: :bang:

I've been using Ultra Copper for pretty much everything so far. It seems to usually work fairly well, but this particular time it only lasted a year.

OT: About your PC, who knows. The internet is full of crap, it may have been a windows update though. As far as the thing with 'Lil Anthony's, I'm so out of the loop with the local meets. Last time I saw a meet there, it was by chance that I was driving by on Broadway and saw a cloud of tire smoke. I do hate that place, the entire staff is comprised of 16yr old high school drama department kids. I mean, does it REALLY take 20 minutes to make a milkshake????

Thanks John. Whatever it was caused my browser to stop opening windows and wouldn't let me use emoticons (by clicking on one to insert it). Rebooted and it seems to be ok. Who knows what dog crap installed itself. :notnice:

I just go to L.A.'s for the cars; I havent been inside that place in about 8 years. Some shows are alright and some are lame. There isn't much for car shows around town all that often though so I take what I can get.

Again, I apologize for the serious thread derailment. I shouldn't have posted either topic. :bang: I should have learned from the situation arising from Justin's sig quote. :rlaugh: :nice:
BTW Justin, the shake comment: :barf: :nice:
