Throttle Body studs????

I am doing a head and intake swap and everything was going smoothly, until I tried to remove the old throttle body studs off the stock intake to put on the new intake. The damn things won't come off, even the old EGR spacer is stuck on there. I let them soak in WD-40 over night and nothing, what's the deal? Do I need some kind of plastic explosive? The upper intake is off the car so I am sure there are no more bolts that need to be taken out. How did you guys do it? I am thinking of just going to Home Depot and buying some new studs? I am using a Typhoon intake and new 70mm throttle body and EGR spacer how long should the studs be. I’m not home so can’t measure. Thanks for any help.

I had the same problem on mine...what I did was use the "two-nut" method...I put one nut on and then put another nut on the stud against the 1st nut and used it to back out the studs one by one...and then the EGR spacer was stuck on there (old gasket)...so I just took a rubber mallet and tapped it off... :nice:

Ya, what he said, except put a washer in between the nuts. It'll prevent them from both spinning. If you're still stuck use some heat, someone may have used thread locking compound. Good luck.

Good idea...

Mine didn't spin on me (I guess it depends on how bad they are stuck)...but I tightened the two nuts too each other using two open-end wrenches and it acts like a washer in itself...the nut only has so much surface area to contact each other...and then I just used the nut (closest to the spacer/intake of the two) and backed it out... :nice:

Thanks for the quick replies guys. The fight I just had with those damn studs should have been on PPV. The two "two-nut" method worked. Sadly it was all for nothing. Two of the studs were rusted beyond repair, tried cleaning them with a wire wheel and a drill and they started to fall apart. Going to Home Depot and going to look for some long bolts, that way there is no rematch between the studs and I. Thanks again guys.

No problem...I almost bought me some new ones as well...because where they screwed into the intake...there was rust on the ends of them...but they were still solid so I reused them out of laziness

Just get the same size factory studs that are on there...if your able to...and get new gaskets for the TB and EGR Spacer...they around $5 a piece...
