one day i was sitting in park and the stang was idling. I mashed the throttle to the floor ( for like .02434323 second to give it a rev and all of sudden it was ROARING at like 5500 RPM and it stayed there. i just the car of ASAP. i popped the hood and the throttle cable popped off the throttle body. BTW it's a BBK 70mm piece. it's scary. im scared now of going out on the road and getting on it. or ill be going down the track and cross the traps and its stuck WOT. do you guys know of a good way to keep this dang throttle cable stuck on the throttle body so it won't come off??? Thanks a lot guys, I appreciate it!

Your TB should have a return spring built onto it. It should spring back whether there is a cable on it or not. My 75mm BBK in my '65 has one and it works.

Sounds like it might be sticking somewhere, because it should spring back. See if there is any grime build up in the TB. Also, move the TB open and closed with your hand with the engine off and see if it's sticking.

I would be more concerned (as stated above) about the return spring. If the cable did come off makes no difference. It should have snapped shut.

If the butterfly sticks, remove the throttle cable. If it still sticks, check the butterfly. Some of them stick in the bore. Some have loosenable fasteners that hold the butterfly to the axis shaft. try to adjust it. Some folks have had to use a dremel on the TB bore to fix the issue.

If it never sticks with the Throttle cable off, the cable is likely sticking. One can lube it, etc, but it likely is coming unwound, so just putting a new one on is wise, IMHO.

Good luck.
