Ticking noise comming from engine on cold starts. Plese Help

Have you checked the torque on the spark plugs? I thought some guys reported hearing ticking from the engine bay before a plug was ejected from it's position.

pretty noticeable. Not sure if this is just a 2V problem or not, but good point in bringing that up LI98GTStang, because it completely slipped my mind. This would make sense, considering it just started recently. Check your plug torque! They should be snugged to 12ft-lbs, make sure your engine is stone cold before attempting to check

in that senario, wouldnt the tick be constant? it does go away after the engine gets up to operating temp. thats whats making me lean more toward it being in the valve train.

well, the reason i say it is because you said it just started this week. If the plug started to back out a little bit, when the metal is contracted there will be a lot of air escaping and you will hear it. Assuming the plug isnt far enough out, it could be possible that it would quiet down as the threads on the head and plug expand and seal better. It doesn't hurt to check

My thoughts exactly. As the car heats, up everything expands elimating the gap that might exist. Should be very easy to check anyway.

try the cheap stuff first then we'll talk. In all honesty, if you're really that bothered, pick yourself up a nice set of FR500heads/cams/intake

99+ DOHC heads wont fit my car, would have to replace many parts to convert to the tumble port heads.
