Time for Electric Cooling

Hey Gents/Ladies,

Got a 92 Foxbody and planning a Heads/Cam upgrade soon. Other than that everything else is all set, except my Flex-a-lite POS fan.

That thing is about to fall apart and is raping my poor little fan shroud.

I was thinking of upgrading to an electric cooled system that will eventually support 500-600hp. Last year I replaced the radiator with some kind of autozone crap that was an upgrade from the original OEM. (I think it has another core or something).

Will the current radiator support my cooling needs? I'm thinking along the lines of some AFR heads/Ed Curtis cam/ATI Procharger.

What electric fan system should I go with? I need details and pretty pictures if possible, since I work on computers all day and I'm an automotive retard.

it sounds like you have a GDI 3 core HD radiator.

Do you know how much space you will have in front of the rad once the blower is in place? That space (or lackthereof) might predicate what fan options you have.

Ahh...I have no clue as far as the space is concerned, additionally I'm not even sure I'll go w/that procharger.

TT remains an option, especially since the blower will cost me roughly the same amount of money and TT can pack much more power.

Right now I'm just trying to get a nice platform ready to dump this stuff into, and hopefully not have to buy parts twice.

Since we're talking about electric cooling, has anyone produced a reliable electric water pump yet (that is affordable)?

Herr Yount runs a couple SPAL fans and they are quite slim from pics I have seen. That might be nice for tight quarters, albeit pricey.

You could do something like a junkyard 3.8L taurus fan on the cheap for now.

There are more than a few guys running elec water pumps now (they seem to be rated for some good hours) but that is too rich for my blood. The DcControl would be mint for controlling a fan and the elec pump.

What is your current issue with the cooling system??? Since you obviously have a huge budget, you might look into one of the BeCool setups which come with fans. Many electric fans pull enough air, but they don't cover enough of the radiator to be effective. Such as teh Black Magic pulls air hard, but only covers half the radiator. There are many radiators out there that do a great job. I have a 31x19 AFCO, havent' used it yet, but I am sure it will do great. I chose it because it is fully metal welded, no epoxy. A 55gpm electric waterpump unit will definatly keep it cool. Go with premium parts and you shouldn't have any issues.
 
I was looking at the BeCool setups and they are rediculous. I have a respectable budget, but within reason. Realizing this is a $6,000 car, I'm not going to dump $1300 into cooling...lol.

I was thinking more along the lines of the Ford Racing Radiator like this.

I guess its aluminum and a bit lighter, maybe I can sell my old one or something.

As for the fan, I was looking at one summit had...its a dual setup and supposedly pulls 4000cfm. Here it is... Ok...nm that I can't find it again. Maybe it wasn't specific to my application or something. Perhaps I need to learn to search...it was made by a company beginning with a "D". I noticed it hadn't been mentioned in the mass of threads I've searched on this earlier today.

I don't want to put junkyard parts on my car or do jimmyrigging here. I wonder if they have new 3.8L fans, or a dual setup that's reasonably priced for the application? I went to SPAL's website...man it sucks. Also, what size single/dual fan/s would I need?

The FRPP aluminum radiator PN: M-8005-C is what im using to cool my 466 in my fox, i was using a ford taurus fan from the 5.0 to cool the big block which worked ok when i drove around without the hood on. I just today ordered from summit a dual flexlite setup with an adjsutable thermostat that flows 2500 cfm and is a thin setup for $237, i need the space which is why i was limited in my fan choices. But If that radiator and fan setup can cool my combo, im sure it can handle yours.
 
www.dccontrol.com --- the ONLY way to control your electric fans and pump - if you end up going that way.

Most folks on the site who post indicate no cooling problems with any of the following fans: 1) Lincoln MkViii, 2) Taurus 3.8L V6 fan; 3) SN95 fan; 4) SPAL fully shrouded dual 11" fans. If you look for early-mid 90's Volvo 940's at the used parts places, they also use a fan that's almost identical to the Taurus fan. Any of those can be fired off with the DCC controller quite nicely. Here's a bit more on my install of the controller.
